Kayla Morgan laughed in pure ecstasy as she flipped up over the mound and came down, bending her knees and sticking her landing perfectly. Sliding past her boyfriend, Will Cloud, she kissed his cheek and continued on her way to the cheers of Dink and Sam, adding in a playful board-grab on the half-pipe.
Suddenly, she heard the slam! of a car door and the carefree laughter of a teen. Unstrapping her boots, she grabbed her snowboard and walked over to Will, who slung his arm over her shoulders and grinned at her.
"Who do you think it is?"
"Why in the name of Tyson's Peak do you think I would know who it is?"
"Your dad literally owns the resort, you should know!"
"Yah-huh."
"Will you two stop flirting and get over here?" Sam called, snickering. Kayla glared playfully, but skipped over with her braid swinging behind her and Will in tow.
A tall, lean teen with muscled, tanned arms and legs, long, unruly black hair, and eyes hidden behind a pair of UV-protecting aviators clambered nimbly out of the muddy blue pick-up's driver seat and stretched, an ironic smirk on her face as she grabbed her large bags, turned, and surveyed the resort.
"Hi, my name is Perci, what's yours?"
Kayla waved at her, not letting go of Will's hand.
"Kayla, Kayla Morgan. This Will Cloud, Sam Smith, and Daniel "Dink" Johnson."
"Cool. I've never tried snowboarding, but figured I might as well give it a go."
"Couldn't hurt!" Will laughed.
"Suuurrreee..." The girl-Perci-raised an eyebrow. Then, she got a look on her face like something had just dawned on her.
"Oh, Kayla! My friends Katie Gardiner and Miranda Gardner-yes there's a difference, Smith!- have told me about you before. That's actually why I came here instead of heading to Alaska."
Thunder rumbled, which wasn't too unusual considering the skies were cloudy, but the weird part was when the girl turned and yelled at the sky, "Calm down, Drama Queen! I'm here, not there, aren't I?"
She turned back to us and looked rather sheepish.
"Um...yeah. Anyway, hello, could someone please tell me where," she checked her black phone, which had an odd contraption on the back of it, "Room 101 is?"
Kayla smiled as Sam and Dink pointed to her and said in sync, "She could."
She laughed.
"Alright, then. Kayla? I have to get there fast, 'cause my mom signed me up to work at the Hot Doggers dog spa, because all animals except owls and bears love me."
She and Will shared a grin.
"Let's go, Perci." she said, smiling at the pretty teen.
