Jealousy's King - Prologue
Sirius had never really understood the way James and Remus connected. One day they could be arguing over James's lack of ability to pay attention and the next they're throwing playful punches at each other. The animagus sighed, running his hands through soft dark locks as he placed himself precariously on a stack of untouched text books.
Remus sat just beside him, poking James with his quill as the other boy dozed on his Herbology homework.
"James, would you attempt to pay attention when I'm talking to you?" His only response was a slight snore from the black haired boy to which Sirius snickered quietly.
He laughed softly as Remus shot him an annoyed glance, replacing the book on his lap with a roll of parchment, beginning to scribble furiously. "Having a bit of trouble, Moony?"
"Not at all," mumbled the lycan darkly. "Not anymore than usual at least,"
There was his fatal mistake, the line between what Sirius thought was a good play of words and bad. He carefully shifted his weight on the textbooks, leaning closer to the brunette and looking at him intently. Behind that silver gaze was something more, an underlying threat, though Remus never seemed to detect it as he kept writing.
"So there's more to it," He took great pleasure in watching Moony look up at him abruptly. "There's something going on, something you two don't want to tell me," Remus merely cocked an eyebrow incredulously, though he set the quill down.
"Sirius, what on earth would be going on? Why are you acting so strangely all of a sudden?"
The way his hair fell casually into his eyes, his eyes that soft gold almost made Sirius melt. "What are you guys hiding? What's wrong, Padfoot?" The lycan reached up to gently take hold of Sirius's wrist in his own small hand.
He immediately jerked his hand away, glaring at the older boy softly. How could he be expected to not be harsh in a situation such as this?
"If you two wanted to be alone, you could have just asked, you didn't have to go sneaking away," He was breathing faster, the blood from his head rushing to his toes, leaving him feeling cold and hollow. "I-I wouldn't have minded so much. I would have left you guys alone,"
Remus was frustrated by then. "Sirius, what the hell? There is NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING going on between James and I!" He shook his head incredulously, staring at the pale boy infront of him as if he were mad.
Sirius merely stared back coldly. Ever since Remus had admitted to being gay in fourth year he had always wondered about himself. Were the girls just a mask, a phase perhaps? Did he go after blokes? Yes, he did. Staring at Remus now, he could truly say he was gay...or at least bisexual.
