I had to do this. I HAD to.
Sequel to 'Don't.' Read that before you read this one.
No beta. I own nothing.
WARNING: Exceedingly cheesy, especially at the end.
On any other day, seeing her like this - sweaty, weak, and tired - would pain him to no end. But today, on this most glorious day of all glorious days, it made his knees buckle with joy. Because there, on the bed, sat his wife, his beautiful wife, with a tiny bundle tucked in her arm. With a stupid grin on his face, Edmund kneeled next to the bed and peered at the baby in her arms.
"She's perfect," he breathed. Ren smiled softly.
"Ed, the healers…" she croaked. He looked up, suddenly worried. Her smile stayed on her face. "The healers say she's healthy…and my fever's broken."
"Thank Aslan!" Edmund cried, pulling his wife into a hug, careful of the infant between them. The couple stared down at the baby's sleeping face.
"Look at her," the king said quietly.
"Princess Analie," Ren said, stroking her daughter's soft cheek.
"You know what, Ren?"
"Hm?"
"She's as beautiful as you."
"Daddy," Analie said, climbing onto her father's lap. "Do you love Mummy?"
Edmund, raising his brow, looked up from the treaty papers and at his daughter. "Of course I do! What makes you ask that?"
She shrugged. "I dunno. Do you think she's smart?"
"The smartest lady in the world," he replied with a smile.
"Do you think she's pretty?"
"I think she's the second prettiest lady that lived."
"Who's the first?" Analie asked curiously.
"You, of course," Edmund replied, wrapping his arms around his daughter and kissing her cheek. She giggled happily.
"Umm…..Do you like her hair?"
"I love her hair."
"Do you like her….nose?" Analie giggled again. Edmund chuckled down at her.
"I love her nose."
"Do you like her….ears?"
"I love her ears."
She sighed. "Is there anything you don't love about Mummy?"
"Nope." He chuckled when she huffed. "Do you have anymore questions to ask me, or can I get back to work?"
"Umm….yeah. What do you like most about Mummy?"
Edmund grinned and tickled Analie. "I like that she's as beautiful as you."
It was Analie's first big gala. The teenaged princess was pampered and powdered, making sure every detail of her appearance was perfect. Her long gown swept to the floor, and her hair was twisted in a bun. Edmund insisted that she didn't wear make-up, and so she begrudgingly wiped it all off.
And when she arrived in the Great Hall, Edmund felt like hitting every young man who asked for a dance and taking his baby girl to bed and reading her a story. But of course, he watched with solemn eyes as she laughed and danced with all who asked her hand and bit his tongue when he wanted to intervene.
"You don't look very happy," a voice said from behind. Edmund turned and smiled at Ren.
"Hello, love." He held out his hand to her and pulled her close, slipping his arms around her waist and resting his chin out her shoulder. She grinned, and they looked out across the dance floor at Analie, who was currently twirling around with the prince of Galma.
"She's gotten so big," Ren sighed. "And she looks so lovely."
Edmund's lips twisted into a smile, and he pressed a kiss to Ren's cheek. "You know, my love, she's as beautiful as you."
A cheesy little fic to give Ed a happy ending. I absolutely had to. If I didn't give him a really cheesy happy oneshot I would've felt terrible, what with the way Don't ended. I was originally planning for Ren to have died, but that would've made me feel so bad. So, I hope you enjoyed!
