Morning Blues

"Ne minna, I want to get a tattoo."

The whole room went silent. Luka smiled.

It was a perfect Spring morning. The strong and willful Sun had already made his way through the shy and resilient pale clouds, warming up the immature green sprouts on the enormous hills. A slight, gentle breeze blew over the trees, installing a never-seen dance, a sort of midterm between a soft waltz and a livelier foxtrot, the hardly new leaves orchestrating the rhythm, while the mockingbirds gave voice to the entire show, their chirping awakening the whole neighborhood. The sky had really cleared up from the light showers that persisted for the entire week. A few drops of rain, here and there, still lingered on some bamboo leaves in the Twilight Mansion's garden.

It was Sunday. No work, no school, no college, just a very much desired rest. Yuki and the Zweilt gathered as usual for their breakfast on the mahogany dining table, already full of the most varied dishes, enough to put a 5 star hotel banquet to shame.

Luka stood quietly on the doorframe, arms crossed, an indifferent expression on his face, watching the pairs arriving and sitting next to each other. First, the Murasame siblings – Touko with her always friendly smile and Tsukumo somehow looking sick. Next a sleepy Kuroto accompanied by Senshirou, wearing a white shirt (which no longer seemed to be white with all the ink stains). Finally Shusei and Hotsuma, with the younger Zweilt bragging about his genius mind and intelligence, as Shusei could only nod, an I-already-heard-about-this smile noticeable. A normal morning like any other.

"So noisy! Can't you be quiet for a couple of minutes?" – Kuroto attacked as his eyes skimmed the table, looking for something to quench his thirst.

"Na, Kuroto, let's not start right now…"- Senshirou's plea was ignored and abruptly interrupted by Hotsuma's sudden standing, his chair almost falling.

"What do you want Kuropii?"- An evil smirk was plastered on his face as the youngest Zweilt started blushing.

"Senshirou… you!" – All his attention was now focused on his partner.

Senshirou smiled guiltily, hoping he could escape the Shogi's player wrath. – "Na, na, Kuroto, doesn't that name sound cute?" – More oil to the fire. The art student could swear he felt the thickness of the blade Kuroto held during their battles with the Duras on his throat.

A few claps came from the direction of the door. It was Giou Takashiro who stood there. – "I didn't know that mornings were so lively in this place." – He passed by Luka, who didn't bothered to spare him a greeting, his long, light linen like hair brushing through the Duras shoulder.

"Takashiro-san!" – Yuki's bright voice called him. – "Are you joining us for breakfast?"

"Well, why not? My office is getting remodeled so it's not very pleasant to eat there." – And sat on the head of the table, his secretary Ibuki immediately serving his coffee.

"Hotsuma, sit if you don't mind. Stop behaving like a child." – Shusei's words were like absolute orders to the orange haired boy.

The God's voice sat properly, a little sulking though. – "The chibi was the one who started." – His voice was barely audible.

"I did what?" – Senshirou's tried to calm his partner, a little afraid of the murdering gaze the younger boy was sporting.

"Na, Hotsuma-kun, Kuroto-kun, let's eat before all this food gets cold. Especially after all the trouble Tooma-san had to prepare it.

Yuki's words calmed the two hot-blooded Zweilt. Takashiro watched with amused eyes the whole situation while quietly sipping his sugarless black coffee. Touko was the first one to grab something to eat – a pancake coated with honey, putting one on her brother's plate too, although the latter didn't seem to have so much appetite.

"What's wrong Tsukumo? Do you want some blackcurrant jam instead?" – The pink haired girl looked worried.

"I don't feel… so well." – His cheeks were a little rosy and his voice sounded somehow raspy.

"Did you get a cold? Your stomach must be irritated." – The older sister immediately put her hand on his forehead to check for a possible fever. A relieved sigh said the opposite.

"I don't know. Last night I ate two chocolate bars, three azuki beans buns, the matcha mochi we bought after school and a bowl of vanilla ice cream and it didn't upset me."

Everyone's attention shifted to Tsukumo. How could he digest all those snacks like it was the most natural thing in the world?

"No kiggy tho yu ha shick." – Hotsuma was chewing on his tomato bread.

"Stop talking with your mouth full." – Shusei reprimanded his partner. His plate was still empty. Only his mug was filled with some hot oolong tea, the scent of it not strong enough to surpass Takashiro's coffee.

"Hey! You're not eating anything! Saving for lunch?"- A bright smile appeared on Hotsuma's face as he took another bite of his bread.

"Oh, are you two going somewhere today?" – Senshirou asked innocently. His green tea was turning cream coloured with the milk he added before.

"He he!" – A proud grin was plastered on the orange haired boy's face. He took a small card from his pocket and showed it to everyone.

"What is this? A detention calendar?" – Kuroto spared it only one single glance and went back to his butter toast.

"It's a driving license!" – He said it so loudly that everyone in the mansion must have heard him. – "Wait until you're an adult, chibi." – An evil smirk was enough to irritate the shogi player.

"Senshirou drives me anywhere I want. And he doesn't complain, right?" – He turned his attention to his partner.

"Well, I don't mind." – A small laughter accompanied his words. He wanted Kuroto to be dependent on him. In some way. He didn't wish to be involved in this matinal discussion, though. Shusei's frown indicated the same.

"You better be careful Shusei. I'm worried about your safety." – The youngest Zweilt sneered back.

"Thanks for the advice Kuroto-kun. I guess I'll need it." – Shusei took a sip of his tea.

"Shusei! You should…" – Hotsuma was ready to spill a really long protest but suddenly a hand squeezed his inner thigh. Not strong enough to hurt. More like a teasing, to put him in a mood. A very good mood. A skilled warm hand touched his manhood through the worn out jeans. When did Shusei learn this trick?

"Let's finish our breakfast before this turns into a battlefield, shall we Hotsuma?" – Shusei's smile looked more like a threat. The God's voice only nodded. He was completely tamed by his partner.

It was a perfect morning.

Yuki was quietly talking to Takashiro who listened with the upmost attention. He offered earlier to cure Tsukumo's indisposition only to be refused by the Murasame siblings. The little banter between Hotsuma and Kuroto enlighten his mind and was already part of their routine. The God's light looked at Luka who responded with an honest sincere smile.

A few footsteps could be heard. Just a faint resonance that was increasing in volume and frequency. It was becoming louder and louder, faster and faster. Someone was running. The sound of boots against the hard tiled floor was getting closer and closer.

"Senshirou-kun!" – Giou Tachibana shouted his name. He was out of breath by the time he reached the dining room. An enormous dark blue hat ornamented with two purple butterflies hung over his head. His long fuchsia coat patterned with teddy bears seemed more like a child's dress. No one could be as extravagant as the Twilight Mansion's curator.

"Tachibana-san, is something wrong?" – He didn't have time to register the odd choice of wardrobe when he was suddenly hugged, his milk tea almost falling to the floor.

"Senshirou-kun! You received an appraisal by the Japan Art Association[1]! I knew right from the beginning that Piercing in my Darkness[2] had potential! We must celebrate!

No one in the table knew what was happening, except for Touko. – "We submitted Senshirou-san's painting for an Art Gallery. He didn't want us to tell anyone but he should have more confidence in his works!

Tachibana finally released his grip. – "Oh Takashiro, it's rare to see you taking breakfast with them.

"A meal to strengthen our bonds, let's put it this way." – Both man smiled.

Kuroto was still thinking about the name of the painting. His hands completely stopped. – "Piercing in my Darkness…" – Why didn't Senshirou tell him about this? What else was he hiding?

"Kuroto?" – His partner looked more troubled than delighted.

"I already finished eating." – And got up, preparing to leave. Luka looked at him with amiable eyes, as if he knew what he was assuming.

Sensing the bad atmosphere that was arising, Yuki tried to soothe the awkward ambient. - "Ne minna, I want to get a tattoo."

The whole room went silent. Luka smiled.

"What are you saying Yuki?" – Takashiro was the first one to break through the gasps and surprised gulps.

"A tattoo. In the shape of a cross just like the marks Luka has. Like a special bond between I and him."

The previous footsteps returned with the same intensity. Only this time not from Tachibana. Fujiwara Isuzu, Giou's family doctor ran down the stairs with such quickness it's hard to believe how he didn't trip over them. Alongside his supposed white medical coat, the wild shady greyish hair and the gloomy beard were already usual.

"A tattoo Yuki-kun? It's not difficult to make one. I could help you." – He gave a few words to the young boy and turned immediately his attention to Luka. – "The Bloody Cross like Luka?" – His tone of voice was even clearer, with hints of infatuation. – "I'll do it Yuki-kun, but I'll have to examine Luka's body first. You don't want to get the wrong design right?"

The Duras face was contorted in disgust as well as an anger that was building up. He hadn't used his sword for a long time and now seemed to be the perfect time to do it.

"Calm down Fujiwara-sensei." – Takashiro held Yuki's hand. – "Let's discuss this another time. This is something you have to think carefully. Well, I've got work to do, so I'll be taking my leave now." – Taking the last sip of his coffee, the head of the clan left the room, followed by Tachibana who dragged along the high spirited Fujiwara-sensei. Luka actually looked relieved.

"I'll go back to my room Yuki-chan. Tsukumo looks like he needs some rest. We will see you later." – Touko helped her brother to get up. The God' ear gave an apologetic smile while holding her sister's hand.

"I'll… water the plants outside."- Kuroto stormed out of the room, not sparing a glance to Senshirou.

"Sorry Yuki-kun." – And the oldest Zweilt followed his partner, hoping to explain the whole situation and clean up the whole mess.

"Well, we should get going too. – Hotsuma finished eating his tomato bread and made a head signal to Shusei.

"Will you be fine, Yuki?" – The God's eyes asked attentively, worried about his feelings.

"I'm ok Shusei-kun. Go have fun with Hotsuma-kun." – And the two Zweilt left the room. Only he and Luka remained there. – "Ahh, all of them had plans today. Finally alone gain." – Yuki joked about his current situation.

Luka came closer, his expression much softer than before. The Duras kneelt in front of him, taking those fragile small hands into his and placing a chaste kiss. – "As long as I'm alive, I'll never leave you Yuki. I won't let you feel loneliness. Not anymore."

Yuki could only smile. – "I know."

[1] – The Japan Art Association is the one who attributes the Praemium Imperiale Awards for areas like painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and theatre/film, which are not covered by the Nobel Prize.

I made a little research and just wanted to give a well-known award name/association to Senshirou to show how great his art is (though I've never seen it… haha!)

[2] – Kuroto's name is written with the character for black (黑) and knife (刀). So Piercing in my Darkness is a name I invented for Senshirou's painting just to express how much he cared about his partner :P

For the next and last chapter:

*Hotsuma and Shusei's little car trip;

*Kuroto and Senshirou's misunderstanding;

*This was rated M for some reason :P
