In any other chess game she would have been only a pawn, effortlessly controlled, but Lelouche made her a King – the piece that must be protected above all; the weakest piece, the one with no ability to fight her own battles (or maybe he just never gave her the opportunity. She loves him so much her heart aches, but he would have kept her ignorant for the rest of her life.)
There is no one around anymore who cares enough to make her their King, and the world tries to default her back to a pawn. But pawns, however easily manipulated they seem, have the ability to become Queen. Zero supports her, as does Cornelia, and when Nunally vi Brittania makes her play for the crown, there is little to no opposition.
(She has never wanted the power or the throne, but Lelouche gave her this world, made this world for her, and she will treasure his last gift to her, even if it's not what she really wanted, even if she would give it back if she could. He never understood that all she'd ever wanted was him, and if she didn't love him so much, she'd hate him, just a little bit, for dying and taking away the only thing that really ever mattered.)
A/N: So this has been sitting on my computer for...a while. I figured I'd post it, despite the run-on sentences.
