Just Checking In

Harry takes off after defeating Voldemort; his friend Merlin checks up on him. Crossover.

Disclaimer: I own nothing Harry Potter or Merlin. I just write about them.

A/N: Just a short one-shot because I couldn't sleep. First attempt at a crossover.

Just Checking In

He didn't notice the door of the pub opening and closing, much less who walked in. It wasn't until the man plopped down in the seat across from him that he lifted his eyes from his pint.

"You're a sore sight for eyes," Merlin said dryly.

Harry looked tired and disheveled, but wasn't drunk. "I had to get away. If I'd had to shake one more hand, or listen to one more story, I was going to be ill!"

"You already look ill." A tankard materialized in front of Merlin, who picked it up and drank. "I heard you did away with what's-his-name."

"Yeah," groaned Harry. "Not my happiest moment, but not my unhappiest one either. Fill me up, would you?" Merlin nodded his head, and Harry's tankard was suddenly full of a dark, hot liquid. "Tea! What's with the tea!" Harry frowned.

Merlin grinned. "You're getting too close to the edge. Can't have any sudden happenings, you know?" He winked.

"I said I was sorry about that!" exclaimed Harry. Merlin just smiled. Harry sighed, took a drink of the tea. "So how's Arthur?" he asked.

"Doing quite well, actually. You heard he married Gwen?" Harry nodded. "They're busy making babies as we speak."

Harry smiled. "Good for them! So Morgana's out of the picture?" He took another drink of his tea.

Merlin took a pull on his tankard, too. "I don't think so," he said softly. "She was injured in the fight, but the dragon tells me that she lived."

"Poor you," said Harry, still smiling. "I guess we all have our problems."

"Speaking of problems, what happened to Draco Malfoy?" Merlin took another drink.

Harry sighed, ran his hand through his hair. "He's still around. Ron's all for chucking him in Azkaban forever, but he did save my life." Harry wanted to change the subject. "So are you seeing anyone? Are there any babies in your future?"

Merlin shifted in his seat, cast his eyes down. "I can't think about that yet," he whispered.

"Oh, sorry, I forgot," whispered Harry. He'd forgotten that Merlin had been infatuated with Gwen. He really felt bad for his friend.

Merlin raised his head, grinned at his friend. "Oh, well. I'd better get an invitation to your wedding to Ginny!"

"I haven't even asked her yet!" Harry exclaimed with mock indignation. Merlin's eyes bore into him. "Would you quit that?" asked Harry, pretending to be annoyed. "It really irritates me!"

Merlin smiled. "What irritates you? That I can see your heart, or that I can predict the future better than Sybil Trelawney?"

"Both!" Harry laughed.

"I must be off. Go home, Harry. Ginny and the others are worried about you." Merlin stood up.

Harry stood up, too. "Yeah, I guess I should. Say hello to Gaius for me."

They shook hands. "Will do," said Merlin. "Give my best to Professor McGonnagall." Harry nodded his head. Then they disapparated simultaneously.
