He stares at the shield for what feels like hours. He looks over the familiar shape, the coldness of the metallic gleam…he screams and shoots it over and over again, his eyes burning with tears. The bullets ricochet, one of them glancing off his arm. He doesn't register the pain, what he's feeling inside hurts so much worse. He drops the gun and walks slowly up to it. Tony slides his fingers over the star, "You were such a liar….all this time."
He pulls the shield from the holster on the wall and carries it over to a table. He drops it unceremoniously onto the surface and grabs a paint pale dumping it over the patriotic colors. "I hate you….I FUCKING HATE YOU!"
He looks at what he's done and cries, it's not the first time he's cried since Steve chose a side he couldn't support. He sees a flash of red and wipes his eyes, "It's dangerous for you here Wanda."
"I know…"
He starts trying to wipe the forest green paint off the shield.
"He misses you too."
"Bullshit!" Tony snaps, "He got what he wanted!" he tosses the shield no longer caring if the paint stains, "I don't miss him…I HATE HIM!"
She sighs and leaves the room, most likely going to find vision. He leans against the work table, blinking back tears. He's alone for hours, and he can tell when Wanda leaves because Vision floats down to him, "Mr. Stark…"
"Maybe if…maybe if I do something bad he'll come back…"
"Don't prove them right." Vision says, gliding over to him, "Don't let them believe you really are a monster."
"What does any of this matter? He's not coming back…he's never coming back."
"Have you tried contacting him?"
Tony can practically hear the tilt of the head coming with Vision's words. "I won't…he doesn't deserve to hear my voice." Tony turns around and leaves the work room, ready to drink his entire personal bar.
