Rainstorm
The day was warm and languid and the air was still. We were walking down the ingrown path that led to the lake near the edge of the grounds. As we were walking, he took my petite hand gently in his larger one.
"It's going to rain today. I can feel it", he commented as he glanced up at the sky.
I looked at him and smiled. He always seemed to know the weather. Like a cat. Knowing when it's going to rain. His gentle face was furrowed as he looked up at the sky once again. His deep emerald eyes bright with this new knowledge.
"It might be a bad one. It'll be here in an hour or two."
He pulled me closer and put his arm around my waist. As we got to the edge of the lake, we sat down against 'our' old oak tree and I put my head on his shoulder.
At the edge of the lake, a few meters away, we could see Crookshanks chasing after a small mouse. You could see the malicious pleasure in his eyes as he pounced on the small animal for the last time.
I smiled. It was a good day.
As we were sitting there I saw a flicker of lightning across the lake in the darkening sky and not long after, heard a faint clap of thunder. I felt a few drops of rain on my cheek and then it started to pour down on us. We quickly stood up and ran up the path again. Me ahead with him gently pushing me along, still holding my hand.
As we neared the Quidditch pitch we quickly got inside the small broom shed that lay a few meters off the side of the path.
We were both dripping wet. We looked at each other and started laughing. His usually messy hair was hanging limply (and still messily) in his face and my damp brown curls framed my face. We sat there together until the rain stopped. My head his shoulder and his arms around me, my hand running gently through his raven locks.
The storm had come out of nowhere except for his quick, humble comment on the path. No one seemed to know it was coming until a few minutes before it did.
As we sat together in the shed, watching the rain fall outside the small window, the sun started to shine again.
We got up and walked out into the light sprinkle that was left of the storm. We both looked up at the sky to see the beginnings of a bright rainbow, which stood proudly over the castle that was our school. He looked at me and I looked at him and smiled.
He put his arm around me and kissed my temple. We began to walk back up to the castle and to the rest of our lives.
The End.
