"Hey, Mikan."
"Yeah, Hotaru?" Mikan hummed.
"Why are you always so happy? Don't you get sad?" Hotaru turned and looked questioningly at Mikan, face carefully blank.
Mikan looked startled by her best friend's question.
"What do you mean is that bad?" Stargazing definitely made her calmer. Hotaru was expecting Mikan to fling her arms around, pin wheeling them and demanding if she didn't love her anymore or something just as loud and obnoxious.
"No, but most humans can't keep being so happy all the time." The question had appeared the very first day they met. She was so bright and cheerful, the epitome of happiness, but, what for?
Mikan laughed, it rang loud through the still night. As the last echo ended she spoke again.
"Hotaru who needs a reason to express how you feel? Just do it!" She smiled so sweetly at her, it felt like it truly didn't matter.
"…baka." With that she skillfully whipped out the trusty baka-canon and fired. As Mikan cartwheeled through the night sky, Hotaru turned and tried to suppress the upward turn of her lips, walking back to her room, stars twinkling above in the black night.
