Her eyes were wide with shock. She watched from behind the door as the creature caught up to Chris and swung its long hand at his neck. The claws penetrated his flesh and Chris' hand clutched his neck, but it was too late. Blood poured out of his neck and his head was falling to the ground.
"Noooo!" Ashley shrieked.
The head hit the snow covered ground and turned to face her. The dead eyes were staring right into hers and she felt a cold feeling inside of her and felt like someone just ripped her heart out and stomped on it. Then the wendigo made a mad dash towards her and she screamed again and turned to run. The wendigo crashed through the door and ran after her. Ashley ran as fast as she could, but soon felt the claws in her hair.
"No, let me go, fucker! Aaaah!" She screamed and tried to hit it or kick it, just get it off of herself any way possible.
"Ash. Ashley, common. You're having a nightmare, please wake up, honey." Chris whispered in Ashley's ear and gently stroked her hair, hoping to wake her up. But it wasn't working. She was still kicking and screaming, even managed to hit him in the face. Chris winced in pain. He finally got a hold of both of her hands and positioned himself som he was kneeling on her thighs, so she wouldn't kick him.
"Ashley, WAKE UP!" He practically yelled.
And she finally did. Her green eyes shot open and found his very own blue ones. She seemed confused.
"Ch-Chris?" She stuttered.
He gave her a small smile.
"The one and only." He told her and slowly got off of her and let go of her wrists.
Ashley sat on the bed, brought her knees to her chest and burried her face in her palms. Chris could hear her quiet sobs. He sighed and sat next to her. He put his arms around her and kissed the top of her head. He didn't say anything, just waited for Ashley to calm down.
"I saw it again. I saw the wendigo kill you. It's the w-worst night-nightmare I've ever had. The-There's just nothing I can do to s-stop it. I'm just s-so glad that you-you're okay." She managed to say between sobs and continued crying. Chris knew very well what she was talking about. He had nightmares of his own about her dying that night."
"Look at me, Ash." Chris told her and she lifted her teary eyes and looked at him.
"I'm here. I am not okay, but I'm here for you any time you need to talk, or cry, or yell, or break stuff, or if you just want my company and good old fashioned hug. That's why I invited you to come stay with me. Okay? We'll get through this, Ashley. Together."
Ashley sniffed.
"I love you, Chris."
"I love you too, pumpkin." Chris told her and gently kissed her forhead.
"Let's try and get some sleep, okay?" Chris said.
Ashley just nodded her head, kissed him on the lips and snuggled close to him. Chris put his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head. He willed himself not to fall asleep until he heard her even breaths and knew she was sound asleep. Only then he allowed himself to fall asleep as well.
