#05: against the world
You promised you'd be with me.
So he did.
You promised you'd be with me when I needed you.
So she believed.
…you liar.
A lone voice crying out in vain through the darkness. Feeling the encroaching touch of its tendrils, swirling around her, binding and pulling her into the abyss.
She resists, because she knows she must. The fire still burns brightly in her. The darkness retreats before the golden lion's roar.
But only for a time.
Weary, she sits, her head to her knees, her arms wrapped around them.
I can't do this alone…
Where are you?
Athrun...?
She looks up and she can see him wavering in the darkness, a warm smile and a hand cupping her cheek, his eyes never leaving hers and telling her believe in me. Believe in yourself.
And she does. For now. But even she knows that the promises of shades are as insubstantial as their form.
She reaches out to touch him, but feels nothing but air.
All around, the shadows draw nearer.
Her only bastion has left her. Alone against the world.
And from behind glass walls he watches, helpless…
