Independence

Is all a young brother wants

He takes his things and runs

Far from Home.

He uses what he has

On things not worked for

Things that are just wastes

He's far from Home.

Then everything is gone

He must go and work

In a land that is starving

Far from Home.

He suddenly remembers

His home with his brother

And his father,

At his undeserved Home.

He makes his journey back

Slow and long as he

Plans how to be accepted

At his undeserved Home.

Then the one he's called his father

Runs ahead to welcome him.

"Father I've sinned against you and Heaven

I'm not worthy to be your son or to belong to this Home."

But his father shakes his head,

And throws a grand party

To celebrate his son's return

To his long-awaited Home.

You and I are like him

We've run away from safety

But we always must remember,

We're always welcomed

Home.

"My son was dead and is alive again, was lost and is found." -Luke 15:32b
