A scholar's curiosity
"Father!" Neal cried, running to Duke Baird with a vial full of orange liquid. He jerked his head to move his bangs out of his eyes. When he reached hi s father, the container spilled a bit of its contents onto his plain shirt and breeches. "Father!" he insisted.
"What is it, Nealan?" Duke Baird said, his eyebrows knit together in concentration. He was currently healing a patient who had a really bad rash and a high fever. "I'm particularly busy right now."
Neal held up the bottle to his father. "What's this?" he asked curiously. His father glanced at the bottle and looked back to his initial predicament.
The four-year-old scowled at his father's neglect. What could he do to get an answer from his father? He smiled mischievously and gulped down the concoction. "Father!" he yelled again. "What was in this bottle?"
"What was?" Duke Baird asked under his breath. He looked at the empty bottle, eyes widening. "Neal" he scolded. "That was Hiccup Juice! Don't tell me you swallowed it."
"I didn't!" he said in his defense. But the bubbles coming out of his throat said otherwise.
"Oh, Neal," the Royal Healer sighed. "What will I do with you?"
"Umm… My rash is still burning here," the man on the table mumbled into the pillow.
"Right," the duke said, face marred with a worried expression. He had no idea what Neal might get because he drank that liquid without a prescription. "Neal, I'll have to look at you later."
Neal burped up more bubbles and smiled victoriously. At least now, he had an answer.
The brunet child lay in bed for a week with a damp towel on his forehead as he coughed up bubbles. "Isn't there and antidote?" he inquired hopefully.
Duke Baird shook his head as he checked his temperature. "I'm afraid no one ever thought that someone would be so careless to drink it without a reason."
Neal huffed and scowled. "I was just curious."
(A/N) Hi there! Wow… three consecutive updates. Maybe I'm less busy than I thought or maybe, I'm just procrastinating.
Well, I'll be performing in a play on the 29th! Yay! But I don't have a part… at least, not yet. But I'm still excited! Whoopie! And Summer's finally here! All I need to do is get my clearance umm… cleared and finish an article about Book Month.
Thank you so much for reading! I love you even though I don't know any of you. But then again, that could be changed with a PM to my inbox. ^_^
I love reviews! And it doesn't take that long to leave one. Well, Bye bye! Have a wonderful life! :D
Warmest Regards,
Nell
