Kanon X Jessica – The Hat

Kanon's hat wasn't questioned often at all. It was just THERE. It wasn't unusual at all for him to have a hat: it went quite well with his attire and Shannon also had a hat as well. However, his simple hat actually had a history of it's own. You can just guess what happened.

It was December of 1980. Kanon had just arrived on Rokkenjima. He was glad he was back with his older sister, Shannon. But he had to fulfill his duties as a butler. No… he had to fulfill his duties as furniture.

Jessica, on the other hand, was trying to decide what to do for Christmas. Currently, she had bought a beret that was red for her father. However, Krauss would have to go away for business during the Christmas holiday. Naturally, Jessica wanted to give it to him either before or after then.

Unfortunately for Jessica, she had gotten into trouble, angering Krauss, despite the fact that he did love his daughter.

It was a week before Christmas.

Jessica was going to attempt to give her father a present in apology, but it turned out perfectly that he had a business trip, and on Christmas week of all weeks!

Jessica would've given her gift to Natsuhi, but she feared that her mother would comment on the hat with contempt, although we all know this would not be so.

Sobbing in frustration, she crumpled up the beret as she sulked in a corner.

Along came Kanon. He watched her as she sobbed loudly, and when he finally had enough, he asked, "Milady, why are you crying?"

She sniffed. "Mother and Father don't want my gift. Nobody wants to spend Christmas with me!" Now, being only twelve, her behavior was understandable. Twelve year-olds these days act like they're extremely mature when in reality, they're just cowering kids like they've always been.

"Milady, what is that in your hands?" Kanon asked. Jessica looked at the wrinkled hat.

"It was my gift to Dad..." she murmured. "But I can't give it to him or Mom anymore now. I can't give it to anyone..."

Kanon stared at it for a few seconds, then said, "I will take it."

Jessica looked astonished. "Really? Then... okay!" she happily handed him the hat. He looked at it for a moment, then slipped it on over his head. "Merry Christmas, Kanon-kun!"

I had been wanting to write some fluff for Kanon and Jessica for a while now. It's not my greatest work, but... *sighs* oh well. It will have to do.
