This is a Caskett fanfiction someone requested to the song 'Love Lives On' by Mallary Hope. This is set after 6x23 and everyone still thinks Castle is dead.
It's been about 3 months since Castle's death and Kate still wakes up believing he is alive and reaches for his body to hug. However, when her arms just flop onto the mattress, she remembers - it is just like getting that phone call at her wedding all over again. She has remembered that phone call by heart as it is the moment her life turned dark...again. "Hello. Is this Miss Katherine Beckett? I am sorry to tell you this but we believe Mr Castle has been involved in an accident."
Kate goes into the quiet kitchen (which is quiet as Alexis has gone to stay with Meredith whilst Martha is travelling trying to reduce the pain) and without even realising, she pours two coffees as she forgets for a brief second again and when the smell of the coffee hits her, she is blasted with the news again. Her mind keeps trying to forget as the truth is too painful. Tears are added to the coffee as the memories of Castle causes her to cry like crazy. Coffee was their thing - he always got her coffee in the morning since day one and she even got him coffee the morning after they first slept together. The memories make her miss him even more and so she decides to leave the coffee and go visit Castle's grave as she can't bear being another minute away from him.
When she arrives there, she lies next to his headstone that says "Richard Castle. Writer, Son, Father and Lover". They chose to have 'lover' on his headstone as it was the last thing Kate called him and they felt he would have loved that as he was an ex-bachelor. Kate tells him all about her dreams in which they got married and had a little family of twins. She mentions how she is trying to learn how to live without him but finds it hard as she forgotten to without him by her side. Kate finally goes home after reminding Castle that she loves him and that their love will live on forever.
When Kate returns home, she calls Martha like she has been every Sunday as, even though she isn't Castle, Martha is the closest she is going to get. Martha is always telling stories about Castle as a stubborn young boy and the stories make Kate believe he is still alive. She knows that Castle can be very stubborn and that he wouldn't just let himself die without a fight. She hopes that somehow he got out of the car and is alive but then remembers that it is probably just denial.
As it is Castle's and Kate's anniversary of their first night together, Kate is wearing Castle's favourite t-shirt during the day as she normally wears it during the night as it still feels like he is there, comforting her. It smells more like her at this stage but refuses to wash it as she she fears it will result in the t-shirt smelling even less like him.
Somehow Alexis knows that it is their anniversary of their first night (in which she doesn't mind the disgusting thoughts as she knew that Kate made her dad so happy) and so she decides to visit Kate and brings little flowers to show her love. Whilst there, Alexis asks Kate to tell her the stories about her father that he would have never dared to tell Alexis. Both Alexis and Kate laugh for hours which is the first time in months about the many crazy stories about Castle, normally involving his strange theories. Although Kate knows Alexis thinks of her more of a sister than a mum, Kate treats Alexis like the daughter she never was able to have with Castle. She is glad that Alexis is around and feels that Alexis is the perfect way to make the love for Castle carry on and gives Kate strength to live life.
