Poison & Wine

Draco Malfoy & Hermione Granger

'I know everything you don't want me to'

Prompt: Keyhole

Word Count: 497

He had always kept things from her. He had never been open about many things. Especially his feelings concerning her.

As a Slytherin his words would always be cryptic, secretly having meaning in what he was saying, making her listen with rapt attention.

She sometimes wondered how their relationship had come about if he never opened up to her.

Then again, the thought of having a person she cared deeply about in danger or close to death made the relationship she had with him become something real.

His heart had a keyhole and she was getting desperate to find the correct key to make him open up to her. But she was a Gryffindor and lions never gave up. Even if she had more disadvantages than advantages in the world she was living these days.

Still, it was disconcerting to have him be cold and distant about matters that she had a right to know.

Hermione had her suspicions of what he was up to when he kissed her forehead and told her not to wait for him.

She would feign sleep when he came home late at night, arms wrapping around her, nose brushing against her hair.

It would have been a comfort to smell her expensive perfume, to feel her warmth. At least she could explain that.

But the smell of death was still on his body even though he would clean his skin until it was pink.

Those same hands that made her sigh also did a lot of damage – not to her, never to her, but to people like her. His mouth was poison and wine at the same time. And she was completely his.

It was now exhausting to give him everything she had and not see anything from him. It made her think that he didn't really love her. But she knew that in his own silent way he did love her like she loved him.

Maybe even more.

And even though the world outside her home was falling into tiny pieces she wouldn't change what she had with Draco.

Sooner or later she would find the correct key and unlock his heart.

It was silly. Deep in her mind she didn't want to know the extent of it. Of what he did. It would break her completely and there would be no way to mend her. But she wanted to know how much he loved her and exactly what he did late at night.

She had always had a thirst for knowledge.

He would calm her down. Draco was best at showing with his touch how he felt about her when they were behind closed doors in the privacy of their home.

His touch helped her remember that he had saved her life, and it made her realize that she had found the key long ago. He loved her and couldn't bear to live without her. All her worries faded away when he kissed her and held her close.
