Rescued from a Dark Place
She was scared.
Red and blue lights flashed through the boarded up windows. Jimmy was muttering angrily under his breath while pacing around the trashed room. The thirteen year olds cheek stung from where the shabby man decided to take out his frustration. The other girls huddled around the edges of the room sharing the same fear as hers.
There were shouts outside, demands the police were making, but Jimmy only muttered to himself more. Suddenly he stopped and looked at the girl. Marching forward, he grabbed the girl's collar and dragged her up and to the door. When he threw it open, the girl felt something cold pressed against her neck. Shaking, she peered through brown eyes at the cops as she and Jimmy stumbled down the stairs.
"Anyone of you moves to follow us and I blow her brains out!"
The cops exchange glances but do as he says when he pushes her down a nearby alley. She stumbles through dirty puddles with the cold gun still pressed against her neck while Jimmy keeps on stealing looks over his shoulder. The man grabs her arm unexpectedly and throws her against the wall. Letting out a cry, she slides down the wall onto the dirty ground. The girl hears a click and looks up to see the Glock pointed at her.
"Oh, girl, it's sad to see our partnership to end like this. You were one of my favorites." Jimmy lets out a hollow laugh, making the lanky girl shrink further away. "But like all good things, it has to end."
The girl squeezes her eyes shut and accepts her faith. Just as his finger was starting to press on the trigger, a loud crack echoed through the air and the gun was pulled out of his fingers. Eyes snapping open, the girl watches as a lean figure jumps in front of her and swings a whip at her former employer.
Catwoman.
She recognized the thief immediately from the footage they played of her on the news. Jimmy gaped at the leather-clad woman before turning and sprinting away. The woman lets out a displeased growl and swings the whip again. It wraps around his ankle and trips him. The man lets out a cry as he falls face first on the ground.
The thief sauntered forward and placed her heeled boat on his chest. Leaning close to his face, she opens her mouth to say something when her head snaps up. She stands up and gives Jimmy a swift kick to his side before running up a nearby fire escape. Both the girl and Jimmy look after her in shock. Then the sound of footsteps hit their ears.
Holding his ribs, Jimmy scrambles up and takes a step towards her, making her flinch back again, before rethinking and running the other way. A policeman comes sprinting into the alleyway a couple minutes later. Seeing the girl huddled by the wall, he quickly holsters his gun and crouches in front of her.
"It's going to be alright."
Wrapped in a blanket, I was sitting next to some of the other girls in a room in the police station. Slowly each girl was taken away, some to be taken back home, others to foster homes and orphanages, until I was the only one left. Commissioner Gordon, the officer that found me, kept on checking up on me, sometimes to ask me questions. I gave him all the information I could, which I knew was more than what a lot of the other girls could give him.
One time he came in with a woman following him. The woman had short hair and had kind blue eyes that shined mischievously. Walking forward, she stops in front of my chair and crouches so she was eye level to me.
Flashing me a smile, she starts talking. "Hey, I'm Selina Kyle. I'm going to be taking care for you from now on but I need you to tell me your name."
"I don't remember my real name and Jimmy switched it up every couple of months. This month's was Angel," I mumble. A frown flickers on her face and she glances back at Gordon. "I never liked them that much."
"We'll find you a new one then."
