Disclaimer: I don't own anything. I bow at Rumiko Takahashi's feet.

Running. Fire all around. Bandits yelling and laughing. Mommy screaming. Father hitting the ground, clutching his bleeding throat.

Running. Sharp teeth. Snarling. Pain.

Darkness.

Rin's eyes popped open and she wrapped her arms around herself, shivering despite the cheerfully crackling fire.

Another nightmare.

They didn't come so often anymore, but she hated when they did. Especially since Jaken had told her that her whimpering during the night was a nuisance to Lord Sesshomaru. She still worried in secret that one day, Lord Sesshomaru would get annoyed with her like everyone else did and leave her behind. So, she held herself tighter and tried not to make a sound.

"Rin."

Rin shot upright, staring wide-eyed at Lord Sesshomaru.

He was leaning against a tree, wearing the same expression he always did. His golden eyes glowed in the dark and the shadows on his face made him look a little scary. But she knew better, Lord Sesshomaru wasn't scary, Lord Sesshomaru was the greatest.

"Come here."

She obeyed instantly, but her heart was pounding. Until now, she'd been allowed to follow him, as long as she caught her own food and didn't slow him down. She'd never been told to approach him!

"Y-yes my Lord?" She stammered, looking down at her dirty feet.

"You were having a nightmare." His voice was quiet. Lord Sesshomaru never shouted at her like he did with Jaken.

"Yes, my Lord, I'm sorry." She felt tears prick her eyes.

"Rin, look at me when I'm speaking to you." She did, but she couldn't stop from shaking. "You have no reason to be afraid. No human or demon will dare approach. And if they do, I will kill them."

He said it like it was no big deal. To him it wasn't. Nobody could ever hurt Lord Sesshomaru. He wasn't afraid of anything.

"If you still feel afraid, that means you don't believe what I say. Is that true?"

Rin shook her head vigorously. She could feel the wetness on her cheeks, and knew Jaken would scold her for crying in front of Lord Sesshomaru but she couldn't help it.

"No, my Lord." Sesshomaru's eyes slid shut.

"Go to sleep."

Rin nodded again. She started to head back to her spot closer to the fire when she heard a wolf howl in the distance.

She wasn't scared. But sleeping closer to Lord Sesshomaru couldn't hurt, right?

Jaken sat up and yawned, awoken by the shining sun. That had been one of his most peaceful sleeps in, well, a long time. His good mood promptly vanished when he saw Rin was no longer by the fire-pit. He squawked in alarm at the thought of what Lord Sesshomaru would do if something had happened to Rin on his watch. He had to find her! He jumped to his feet, looking around wildly.

"Rin! Rin!"

"Jaken. Shut up." Jaken fell silent; he was quite positive he was dreaming. Or hallucinating.

Rin was fast asleep, cuddling Sesshomaru's mokomoko. She had a small smile on her face and sighed happily, stirring the fur.

Jaken stared, mouth hanging open. He was utterly lost for words. Sesshomaru however, was not.

"Mention this to anyone, and I'll kill you."

FIN

A/N: This one is more of a drabble. I've never written a Rin and Sesshomaru story, so I figured it was time. Also, I just found out that mokomoko-sama translates to Lord Fluff-fluff and that makes me ridiculously happy.

Hope you enjoyed!
