Well... to the disclaimer... I don't own the characters of Detective Conan and I don't want to make money with this story.
Trust is a very valuable good
A single tear ran down her cheek and a stab seemed to go through my heart. It hurt me to see her cry.
"Ran-chan... ", I said reaching for her to embrace her in a hug, but she took a step back and I led my arms sink while a stab of pain shot through my heart again.
She stood there and just looked at me. She didn't seem to be angry or hurt. Nothing of this emotions were in her eyes, just this endless sorrow. I couldn't stand looking at her, so I turned my gaze away.
"Why?", she said.
Nothing else, just this single word... nothing else.
So many answers ran through my head at high speed and none of these seemed to satisfy her question. I could have told her, that I didn't want to risk her safety or that I was just afraid of her reaction when she got to know the truth about "Conan". I could have told her that there never was the right moment to tell her. There were so many answers but none of them the right one. Maybe it was all of that, I still don't know. But anyway, it was a week ago since we – Heiji Hattori, Kaitou Kid, Saguru Hakuba and Akako Koizumi – had defeated the Black Organisation and not even one day ago since Ai Haibara – Shiro Miyano – had made the cure for APTX 4869. After I was back to normal I went straight to Ran to tell her everything. And I mean everything, not only the story behind "Shinichi's dissapearence" but also my feelings for her. After I did this she was a long time silent and then... then she cried a single tear and asked me one tiny, little word, which I didn't know how to answer.
I swallowed uncomfortable. "Ran... Ran I'm so sorry that I've lied to you... please, believe me. But I'm not only sorry for that. I'm also sorry that I've hurt you so many times... please believe me Ran... I didn't mean to hurt you, but I didn't know how to protect you otherwise. Can't you understand? I didn't want to loose you. If I had known another way I would have taken it. Please Ran..."
To my surprise she smiled a little while her eyes held still this sorrowfull look. "Do you know what Shinichi? I believe you." My eyes lit up by this and a bright grin started to spread on my face. "I believe you that you didn't want to hurt me and also that you are sorry that you have lied to me."
"Ran...", I smiled happy. "So you believe me? You really believe me?"
"Yes, I really believe you", she said while nodding. "But you don't have to be..."
"I don't?", I asked puzzled.
She didn't answer. Instead she asked me something in return.
"Do you know that trust is a very valuable good?"
I shifted uncomfortable. "Yeah Ran... and... I really AM sorry..."
"I know", she smiled again while her eyes where the whole time full of sorrow. "And I'm sorry too. Because... with your whole actions... trying to protect me... trying not to loose me... you shattered this trust. While you wanted so much to know me save..."
"Ra...Ran", I stuttered, trying to comprehend what she was saying.
"Shinichi... you said you didn't want to loose me, but... thanks to your... methods... you have lost me, Shinichi. You have lost me. I'm sorry..."
I could only stare after her...
...thanks to your methods...
...heart broken...
...you have lost me, Shinichi. You have lost me...
...while she went with this last words out of my house...
...thanks to your methods...
...to never return to me.
