There had been a stray cat wandering around outside NCIS for about two weeks now, and Abby only just managed to earn its trust with the help of a can of food. She'd kept the cat secretly in her lab overnight the night before, and managed to get away with it, even with several curious people wondering what she was talking to herself about now.
Being a stray, the calico cat was practically skin and bones, but Abby wouldn't allow that. She'd left him a can and some dry food to last him the night, and it had all been consumed by morning. The next day the poor kitty was rubbing up against her legs, begging for something else to eat.
"Wow, we're gonna have you fattened up in no time!" Abby said as she grabbed a can from under a stuffed animal and opened it. She had babysat her friends' dogs many times, and they all were fed dried food. Abby wasn't used to opening so many cans a day and certainly didn't expect them to cut so easily. "Ow!" she yelped and nearly dropped all the food onto the floor of her lab. Luckily she kept her grip on the can long enough to put the wet food down for the now slightly stunned cat. She was about to go wash off her wound when Gibbs entered.
He hadn't even noticed the cat on the floor eating when he came in, but he noticed Abby's cut immediately. "What did ya do, Abs?" She sighed and held the cut up for him to see. "Oh nothing, just realized I'm a bad kitty foster mom." Abby always said things that didn't make sense to Gibbs, so he thought nothing of it when he lifted the Goth's hand to kiss the cut in attempts to make it better.
"Abby, what the hell is that on your hand?"
He didn't think he'd ever seen her grin wider, and that was saying a lot. "It's cat food, Gibbs. Just. Cat food." While she was having a giggle fit, he was trying to figure out why that was so funny. It wasn't until the cat brushed up against his legs that he finally understood.
"Aww, he likes you Gibbs! And I bet he'd share his food with you, too! You should take him home. Or at least make him a nice scratching post." Gibbs took one look at the cat and knew he wasn't about to be suckered into taking a stray animal home with him. He left the office probably faster than he did when a case was solved, but not without saying one last thing first.
"The cat's a girl, Abs."
