A/N: Please note that I'm not British so I may get some of the slang and sayings wrong. However I don't think that that's any reason to not like this story. This is my first attempt at a Doctor Who fanfiction.

Chapter One: Bad Wolf Bay

The Doctor looked at Rose as she stared at the spot where the TARDIS had disappeared from. She was different than what the remembered. However he was different too; so wasn't that to be expected? Som any years without her he had finally begun to move on. First with Martha and then with Donna. Doctor Donna. He knew what he'd have to do with her, the other him, and he didn't like it.

But why is my mind not imploding like hers? He scratched the back of his head. Perhaps I'm more doctor than Donna? Or maybe because I've always been the Doctor and a little bit of Donna was just thrown in?

"We should go," Rose said, interrupting his inner monologue. "Standing here staring isn't going to bring him back."

"No, it's not."

She glared at him as she turned around and walked towards the road.

The Doctor looked down at the fee before following her. Even the sight of his Converse didn't make him happy. Do they even have Converse in this universe? I hope so…

When they reached to road Rose pulled out her phone. It was the same flip phone that he modified that day they watched the world burn on Platform One. Well, the day that they tried to watch the end of the Earth.

"Yes? Is this the cab service? Can you send a car to pick me up at Bad Wolf Bay? Okay, how long will that take? Fine, I'll wait. Thank you."

"How long?"

"Awhile."

"Well, we might as well get comfortable."

"And do what?"

"Why can't we talk? You resent me, I know it. You resent me for not being him, but I am him."

"Not a Time Lord, not the Doctor."

He looked down and scratched his head again. "I'm sorry that you feel that way, so, so sorry."

"Stop speaking like him."

"But I am him. How can I stop speaking like myself?" He took her hand and she didn't pull away. That had to be a good sign, right? "I'm that same Doctor who has always thought of you as fantastic. The same Doctor who fell in love with you, Rose Tyler." He stroked the back of her hand with his thumb. "Do you believe me?"

"I believe you."

"And?"

"I don't know what to say… you're still… different."

He nodded, deciding that he could live with that for now.

"What are you going to do now?" She asked.

"What do you mean?"

"A Doctor without a TARDIS? It doesn't seem like much of an adventure."

"You're right, it doesn't, and I don't know."

They sat there in silence for a while.

"I meet someone."

He just stared out into the distance, waiting for her to continue, but she didn't. "Who did you meet, Rose?"

"A guy, his name's Alfie."

"Alfie? Nice name, I suppose."

"I think that he likes me."

"It's hard to imagine someone not liking you."

She smiled, at least he'd managed that. "You know what I mean."

The Doctor nodded slowly, "but… do you like him?"

She didn't answer right away.

"I'm not entirely sure. He helped me get back, you know."

"Hmmmm," while he did not like this Alfie he did owe this strange man that.

They waited for a little while longer until a cab pulled up. Of course the Doctor held the door open for Rose like a perfect gentleman before climbing into his own seat.

"The airport, please."

"Yes, ma'am."
