Steven loved Wallace.
Wallace was his best friend and his boyfriend of three years.
But he didn't feel as though there was anything there now. It had gone back to friendship rather than lovers.
Wallace was busy with his role as Champion and coordinating and Steven was spending more and more time in caves collecting rare stones.
Wallace would often complain that Steven was never there, but Steven felt the same way about Wallace.
But Steven was using his collection as a way to get out of doing something slightly romantic, for example, the picnic Wallace had suggested they go on last Wednesday got put on the backburner.
Steven decided he best get some advice on repairing his relationship with Wallace before he lost what they had forever.
So he called on the most reliable person he knew.
Brendan.
Steven felt nervous as he sat in the small café at Mossdeep, his hometown, while waiting for Brendan. He knew the boy, well, young man now, would be running late.
The years had flown by. Steven couldn't believe it. Brendan was already eighteen! It felt like he was still that young, determined boy he met years ago.
Steven chuckled to himself.
"What are you laughing at?"
He looked around at Brendan. "You finally made it." That was all he could manage. Since when was Brendan so good looking? He had finally grown out of his boyish features, and was now a handsome young man.
Steven blinked a few times, hoping to compose himself.
Brendan sat next to him. "You right?"
"Yeah… you look… so grown up."
"Thanks."
"I meant it as a compliment."
Brendan smiled, leaning in close. "I took it as one."
Steven cleared his throat, feeling suddenly nervous. "So… um… are you still with May?"
"Yeah."
"Wow… it's been years."
"Six" Brendan chuckled. "Enough about me. What calls for this catch up?"
Steven sighed. He nervously chewed his lip as he thought about the best way to put it. "I'm having relationship problems" he admitted.
Brendan raised a brow. "And… I presume you are asking me for advice?"
"Yes" Steven sighed.
Brendan touched Steven's hand. "I am probably not the right person to ask."
"I want your opinion. What can I do?"
Brendan sighed and thought about it. "Well, if May and I are having a bad week I usually take her to dinner. Or I will do something she wants for the day. I just try and spend time with her without annoying her."
Steven nodded. "I guess… I haven't spent as much time with Wallace as I should…"
Brendan's brows furrowed. "Well, make a day once a week where you both promise you won't make other plans and then spend that day together. Even just lounging around watching a movie is nice. Go out for brunch. Do something you both enjoy."
Steven liked the idea. "You do that with May?"
"Yep. Thursday's are our day."
"And it works?"
"Yes Steven" he chuckled.
Steven blushed. "Well… how is the rest of your relationship going then?"
"Good. We have sex often and we always make sure we have dinner together twice a week. We eat breakfast every day together. Lunch is optional." He shrugged. "It's almost routine. But it's comforting."
Steven nodded. "I suppose it would be."
"Why? You want to base your love model on ours? I am sure you could find a better one."
"Well, I guess it works for you. But I do like the ideas you have suggested to me."
"I'm glad. I hope that it all works out for you both."
"Thank you Brendan."
He smiled. "Well, let's order food, yeah?"
"Sounds good. I am starving."
"Course you are Steven."
"I didn't eat breakfast" he admitted, signaling a waitress over.
"Why not? Its import-"
"Yep, okay mother" Steven joked.
Brendan just smiled. "So, what have you been up to?"
"Just the usual."
"Looking for rocks and stones" Brendan finished.
Steven nodded. "Exactly."
"I feel like I know you too well."
Steven chuckled.
Steven felt a lot better after talking to Brendan. He seemed to know what he was talking about, and he had been in a successful relationship for six years!
Brendan must be a happy guy. May was really pretty. Well, Steven remembered her being rather attractive.
He walked into Wallace's house, where he usually stayed Sunday to Wednesday and lounged lazily on the sofa.
"Steven?"
"Wallace?!" Steven sat up and looked towards the kitchen.
"I didn't know you'd be coming back here. Sorry." He walked over and sat next to Steven, who instinctively pulled him into a hug.
"I love you Wallace."
Wallace smiled and looked at Steven. "I love you too, boo." He leaned his head on Steven's chest. "Steven, why are you suddenly so cuddly?"
"Huh? I guess I have gained a bit of weight lately."
"Not like that!" sighed Wallace, exasperated. "You haven't even put on weight" he added.
Steven just smiled.
"What I meant was that you are snuggling with me."
"Good observation" he joked.
Wallace rolled his eyes, smiling.
"It's because I love you Wallace" Steven said, like it was the most obvious thing.
Wallace chuckled. "Steven… I want to apologize for not being here more for you. I mean, I am at the League and-"
"I am not currently employed?"
"-I can tell it's a strain" said Wallace, politely ignoring Steven's comment.
This was Steven's chance! "How about we make a day each week where we both have the day off to do something nice?"
Wallace grinned. "I would like that very much."
"What day?"
"Wednesday."
Steven smiled. "Deal."
Wallace grinned and practically pounced on Steven. "I want it now!"
Steven grinned. "I am more than okay with this."
Wallace grinned. "Good. Cause you wouldn't have had a say anyway."
Steven smiled and pulled Wallace into a deep kiss.
…
Steven hadn't felt so great in ages. Brendan's advice was really something.
Wallace rolled over and faced Steven. "My goodness I fell asleep" he chuckled.
Steven held him and kissed his forehead. "Same."
"You were really amazing Steven" he beamed.
Steven chuckled. "Really?"
"Yes. I was impressed."
"Well, I guess I just really felt it today."
"You know… that was the first time we've had sex in about four months."
Steven nodded. "I am sorry… that I'm just not that intuitive."
"You are fine. Don't worry about it. Anyway, if I had wanted it I should have initiated it."
Steven kissed him. "From now on we will do it three or four times a week."
"I hope we do" Wallace grinned, running his long, slim fingers through Steven's hair. He lightly pulled Steven into a sloppy kiss.
Steven loved it. It felt great. It felt right. It was downright amazing.
He would have to thank Brendan.
"Think of me" Wallace murmured into the kiss.
"Sorry."
"Who are you thinking of?"
Steven blushed. If he said Brendan, what would Wallace think?
Wallace quirked a brow, smiling a little. "Who?" he smiled.
"I have a confession."
Wallace's smile faltered. "Wh-what sort of confession?"
"It's nothing bad" said Steven quickly.
Wallace was feeling confused. "What is going on Steven?"
"I went to see Brendan-"
"Oh my god! Did you sleep with Brendan?!"
"What? No!" Steven sighed. "No, no, no. I went to see him for a little bit of a talk and advice."
Wallace chuckled. "What? I think I am missing something."
"I was feeling insecure… and Brendan and May have been together for years so they must have been doing something right, so I asked Brendan for advice."
"Wait… so… everything about the fun day per week and having sex all the time was his idea?"
"Kinda."
Wallace just sighed. "I am glad that you didn't… well, leave me."
"I would never. I love you more than anyone."
Wallace hugged Steven. "I love you Steven Stone."
Steven kissed him. "I am sorry that… I sought Brendan's advice."
"It worked" Wallace smiled.
Steven was feeling aroused again. Wallace was so beautiful, so graceful.
"Again?" Wallace suggested, rubbing Steven's thigh.
Steven grinned.
After seeing Steven he didn't want to go back to the house he shared with May. Their relationship had been rocky for the last few years, but neither of them did anything about it. They just argued a lot and fought about the stupidest things.
He sighed and opened the door.
"Hey" said May. "Where have you been?"
"I told you I was going to see Steven-"
"You told me that we were going to lunch. I wake up this morning and you were gone."
Brendan sighed. "I told you the other day that Steven had invited me out and then yesterday you asked me to go to lunch and I said I was busy and you ignored me."
"Pfft, like I would."
"May-"
"Brendan."
He rolled his eyes.
"What are you going to say? I wish I didn't move in with you?"
"I would but I have told you that enough."
"You are such an asshole Brendan."
"I know."
"What did Steven have to say?"
"Not much. We just ate."
She raised a brow. "Oh yeah?"
He nodded and sat on the lounge.
She sat next to me. "Why don't you like me?"
He looked at her. "I love you more than you know…"
She looked deep into his eyes.
He was scared that he wouldn't be able to get out of the blue that threatened to drown him. He shook his head. "I don't know."
She bit her lip. "I don't know what went wrong Brendan, what did I do wrong? I am so sorry."
He hugged her tightly, holding her closely. "I… I don't hate you May."
She sobbed into his chest.
"I love you so much. But we have both lost ourselves and each other."
"I don't hate you either" she cried. "Oh my god Brendan. I love you."
"I love you too." He ran his long fingers through her hair.
"I am so sorry Brendan."
"Don't be."
"Brendan?"
"Mm?"
"Would… you hate me… if I left you?"
"No" he replied truthfully. How could be ever hate his best friend and first love? She meant the world to him. "If you don't want to stay with me I don't mind" he smiled comfortingly.
She nodded. "Thank you. It isn't that I don't love you. But this isn't working out."
"I know. I understand." I am living this too.
She leaned up and kissed him. "I… I love you." She wiped her eyes. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, May."
"I will go pack my bags."
"Do you want help?"
"I'll be right."
Brendan followed her to the room anyway.
May stood in the middle of the room. She looked over her shoulder at Brendan. "Remember when we first moved in here?"
Brendan nodded.
"Wasn't it perfect?"
"This place?"
She nodded. "Yes. We were already having troubles that point."
"That was two years ago now…" Brendan thought aloud.
She nodded. "I can't believe we moved in together."
"It was good though. I loved living with you."
"For the first year, right?
"Yeah."
She walked over to him. "It's been…"
"Months."
She nodded sadly. "And it's been well over a year since we… well, y'know."
He nodded. "I know."
She nodded. "Of course. I didn't want it. But I do regret it" she admitted.
Brendan held her close. "I love you."
"Maybe one day we will be right for each other."
