Rift Activity Discoveries

'I think I've worked something out,' announced Owen across the Hub to Jack, eyes fixed on his computer screen.

'And what would that be?' queried Jack, wandering over.

'I know you said you didn't really want me dabbling in this, but what the hell, it could be useful.'

'What are you talking about Owen?' demanded Jack, frowning slightly. If the most straight-talking member of his team was going to speak in riddles, then he was going to get annoyed.

With a small grimace, Owen spun around on his desk chair, revealing that he was holding a pistol. Jack raised an eyebrow, curious. Owen shot him, perfect aim causing a flower of blood over Jack's heart.

Jack let out a jagged huff of air, staggering slightly before regaining his balance and focusing angrily on Owen. He rested one hand on his own gun for emphasis. 'You better have a damn good explanation for just doing that Dr. Harper.'

'Your regenerative abilities are linked to the activity of the Rift,' Owen declared. 'It's like a big battery charger. At the moment, for instance, it's particularly active. Energy's just pouring into you. Moment of death was hardly noticeable. You didn't even fall over for godsake.'

'Owen?'

'Yeah?'

Jack punched him hard, snapping his head back and nearly knocking his chair over. Owen swore, cupping both hands to his bleeding nose. Jack stalked away, muttering to himself. Through ringing ears, Owen imagined he heard something along the lines of 'I liked that shirt.'
