With ease, the mob parried my sword and retaliated with a strike of its own. I leaped to the right and managed to evade the attack, but the mob dashed at me and used «Slant»; An upward sword skill from the bottom left to the upper right. The mob's sword slashed through my body and my vision began to dark around the edges. In a panic, I pushed the mob as hard as I could, using the force to gain some distance. I glanced at my health then my opponent's, I saw a single hit would finish with of us off.
Gritting my teeth, I pulled my polearm into a stance to ready a sword skill. Staring the mob in the eyes, I tightened my grip around the handle, and my weapon's blade began to glow a pale sliver. With a shout I dashed forward, activating the pole-arm's variation of «Sonic Leap», «Valiant Charge». As the name implies, it is a powerful charge toward a target. However it is also very risky, as the user is locked in the charge animation the whole way, making it very easy to predict and counterattack.
As I charged forward, my polearm carving a silver path through the air, the mob smirked as it stepped to the side, already avoiding my attack. Once I was close enough, the mob used it's own sword skill, a basic one hit «Horizontal». This should have spelled death for me. By using a simple sword skill to finish me off while I was locked in my own, and the freeze frame of the mob's sword skill was shorter so it could chain in another sword skill if the first didn't kill me. As the mob's sword, shining a light blue, neared me, I swung my left arm in the way. Using what appeared to be a gauntlet to most others, I blocked the attack. I dropped my polearm and let the momentum of «Valiant Charge» carry me into the mob, tackling him to the ground. I then grabbed its sword arm and began to battle for possession of the blade. After a brief struggle, I ended as the victor - Standing over the fallen mob and prepared to stab down and lay the final strike.
Looking into the mob's eyes again, I saw something that I did not expect to see. Inside the eye's of a mob created out of polygons and lines of code, all typed up by some human, was fear. Fear for it's life that was about to end. I snarled and cursed out the mad man who created this abomination, "Damn it Kayaba, as much as you are a genius you are mad." Closing my eyes, I stabbed down with the stolen sword and the screams of a bandit losing his life were heard.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, I AM BACK!
After many months of reading the stories of more qualified authors (fan fiction or not), I decided to take a closer look at the mess I called my The Artless Phantom and see if I could improve. Turned out I could. So I began to think more about what I planned was reasonable and likely to fit in the story and expanding my knowledge over basic literature itself I came up with this newer version. Compared to my previous attempt, though this may be shorter, I feel like this story is starting off a bit smoother than before. Please review and leave behind any comments you think of, criticism is nice as well. I accept flames as well since anything that can help me improve works in the long run and I need to warm up my room as well :3 Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hoped you enjoyed!
Disclaimers: I do now own Sword Art Online for if I did, would I really be writing about it here?
