The new first-years filed into the great hall anxiously, awaiting the much anticipated sorting ceremony. "Do you think we'll be in the same house, Severus?" Lily asked.
"I hope so." He replied grimly. He was almost certain he would be in Slytherin, and Lily wouldn't.
"Lily Evans," Lily's name was the first to be called out. She walked up to the sorting hat, nervous of what awaited her. Hmmm, what do we have here? Lily almost jumped in fright. It had just spoken in her head! A bright young girl, I see. Ravenclaw perhaps? A few seconds later, the hat called "RAVENCLAW!" And Lily scuttled over to join the unfamiliar faces at the Ravenclaw table.
Lily watched as several boys including James Potter, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew were sorted into Gryffindor. They all sat together on the Gryffindor table and from where she was sitting she could see them talking and laughing. They were obviously going to become fast friends. She watched in anticipation as she heard Severus' name being called. Please be in Ravenclaw! She hoped. As soon as the hat touched his head, it yelled out "SLYTHERIN!" Lily sighed. She didn't know anyone in her own house.
Snape sat at the Slytherin table, amongst many pure blood Slytherins that he was somewhat familiar with, including Regulus Black and Bellatrix L'Estrange. He also noticed many other Slytherins glaring at him. he heard many muttering a of "half-blood" around the table. He glanced over at the Ravenclaw table where he saw Lily chatting happily to some other Ravenclaw first-year girls. He also saw Sirius black at the Gryffindor table. A disgrace to his family, really.
He followed the other first-years to the Slytherin Dungeons and settled into his bed in his new dorm with 3 other Slytherin boys. He sighed. It was going to be s long 7 years. He didn't really fit in anywhere.
