Summary – Estel meets Legolas for the first time.

The Evil of Mud and Older Brothers

Poor Estel had HAD it! It wasn't the first time that his older brothers had done this to him and he knew that it wouldn't be the last. He just wanted to play a game with them but for some reason, his older brothers had to just trick him!

Sure, Little Estel didn't mind a bit of dirt, that was just fine with him, he hated to take baths anyway…but throwing him into a huge mud hole was over the top and not nice at all! The ten year old honestly couldn't say why Elladan and Elrohir had to do such things, but they did and there was no getting around it at all. In fact, they threw him into mud puddles as often as they threw him into a nice warm bath.

"Stupid elves!" Estel muttered and plunked himself down on the forest floor. The trees above him seemed to echo his distress, but someone else did not.

"Who are you calling ignorant, human?"

"My brothers," Estel shrugged. The being then jumped from the tree he had been lounging in and stood in front of Estel. He had long blond hair and dressed in dark shades of green, he had a bow slung across his back and he looked quite interested in the human.

"Pray tell, what have they done to you?"

"Thrown me into a mud pit! I only wanted to play a game with them,b ut they just had to go and ruin everything. I like dirt, but not THIS much!" Estel said, picking at the drying mud on his shirt as he did so.

"Where you do live?" the being asked.

"In Rivendell,"

"Oh? I am also on my way to Lord Elrond's House,"

"Are you the Prince from Mirkwood? Ada said the Prince would be coming soon!" Estel said excitedly.

"Yes, I am Legolas,"

"I'm Estel," Estel replied and held out his hand, despite the dirt, Legolas took it and they shook.

"My, you have a strong grip there, who taught you?"

"My brothers," Estel said, his frown returning.

"Tell you what, why don't we both make our way to your fathers house; we will play a game on the way," Legolas explained.

"All right, can we play I spy?" Estel asked.

"Of course," Legolas agreed.

"You first, your our guest," Estel said.

"I spy something green…" Legolas started, he and Estel started down a gravel path.

"Everything is GREEN!"

"But I'm only looking at something that is specifically green,"

"The trees,"

"No,"

"The grass?"

"No, guess again,"

"The vines?'

"Apologies,"

"Ummm…YOUR cloths!"

"Correct, your turn…"

This game continues the last hour and a half to the home of Elrond. The Elf was waiting on his porch and couldn't help but frown a little as he saw his guest and little Estel traveling along. Estel was covered in mud and was gesturing wildly.

"And then they threw me in the air and I landed in the mud!" Estel finished as they came up to Elrond.

"Good Afternoon my Lord," Legolas gave a small bow.

"Prince Legolas, it is nice of you to visit us once again,"

"It has been many centuries, but I wanted to visit since Father has gotten into his dark mood," Legolas replied.

"And I see you've met someone to entertain you,"

"Elladan and Elrohir threw me into a mud puddle," Estel glowered unhappily.

"I guess I have to go take a bath, but Legolas played a game with me and so I feel better," Estel said and then he ran into the house.

"Don't get mud on the rugs!" Elrond yelled after the dark haired boy. But Estel didn't give any reply and so he probably hadn't heard; or he pretended not too. Either way, he still got mud on the carptets.

"Children, such strange creatures," Legolas muttered.

"Do not forget, you are still a child yourself," Elrond replied.

"What? I am of age,"

"Yes, but you will always be a child to me," Elrond said gently. Legolas gave a small smile and Elrond led him into the house so that the Prince could get settled down for his long stay.
