Faramir stood to the side, watching as his brother dressed. He followed his hands as they fastened the ties on his breeches and tied his boots.

He did not speak for he did not know what he could betray, what emotion lay bare.

When Boromir lifted the tunic over his head, Faramir could not let himself delay any longer. "Here, let me," he reached for the ties and Boromir dropped his hands. Smiling at his little brother, he leaned closer so that the fingers brushed against him as they worked carefully.

Upon reaching the final tie, Faramir faltered and his fingers fumbled. They felt leaden and unable to make a knot. His breath hitched and he felt tears burn his eyes. Ashamed, he turned away.

"What's the matter?" Boromir grew concerned and reached forward, drawing Faramir's chin upward so he could see his brother's face. Tears gathered unshed in Faramir's eyes and his expression was one of admitted despair and defeat.

Frowning, Boromir took him by the upper arms and brought their bodies together, foreheads touching.

Gripping the back of Faramir's head, Boromir pressed his lips against his brother's; chastely at first then adding the fire of his very spirit. Faramir's skin tingled and he flushed with the heat.

"There's no reason to weep, yet. Think of my happy return." Boromir's expression held strength and Faramir took heart.

Faramir stood by as Boromir mounted his horse but could not help taking a few steps forward, before remembering himself, as Boromir galloped off. His words hung in the air, "Remember today, little brother."

And Faramir never forgot it.
