The Girl in the Mirror

As I contemplate my reflection, I see a young woman being molded and shaped by her Creator. A bright, friendly face smiles back at me from behind the glass that separates us. Her plain clothes and slightly hunched shoulders indicate that she is relatively shy, and afraid of the outside world.

On the fourth finger of her left hand is a slender gold ring with an amethyst heart: her birthstone. It's her purity-ring; a symbol and a promise of faithfulness to her future husband.

Her dark auburn hair is soft and straight, stopping at a medium shoulder-length. She's still growing out her bangs, but for now they are swept to the left side of her face, held in place with a hair-clip.

Her eyes? Well, her Mom says they are grayish-blue and her Dad says they sometimes look greenish-brown, so she's not sure exactly what they are. But most of the time they look grayish-blue to her.

Freckles are delicately sprinkled over her nose and cheeks, giving her face a subtle, playful look.

As her kind, innocent eyes gaze into mine, I realize that we are two, me and myself, and we are opposites. The girl in the mirror looks cheerful, innocent, optimistic: the perfect pastor's daughter. But I know my dark side too well to fully believe that the person I see is who I really am. It's so strange; to everyone else it looks like her life is right where it should be. Who would've known that this girl struggles every day to keep her heart as pure and beautiful as the face she sees.

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:13-14
