This is the other fic I wrote during school today. I hope you like it… and review!
The Wrong Person
"Don't look desperate, Syrus," he reminded himself. "Don't smile like a goof, either; just look as if you don't even know it's there."
It was winter, and Syrus Truesdale was in a sweeping hallway in the Obelisk dorm. Usually he wasn't allowed in the building, but this time he had been invited in by his older brother to help him pack for their trip home. When Syrus had arrived, however, Dr. Crowler had informed him that he needed a quick word with Zane. The teacher had instructed Syrus to wait for his big brother's return. Knowing that a "quick word" meant around 10 minutes, Syus had explored the lobby where he was to wait, and the grand hallway leading to it. It was there he had found the mistletoe.
"Oh, man," he said to himself, "I hope Alexis comes by…!"
Syrus had had a crush on Alexis soon after coming to Duel Academy. Bastion had told him of his suspicion that Alexis was crushing on Jaden, but Syrus only wanted a kiss. And after all, 'twas the season… So there he was. Standing under the mistletoe, wishing on its bright red berries and dark green leaves that he was going to get kissed.
Was she even going to come by? "Oh please…"
Syrus decided that he should be doing something. He wanted to leaf through his deck, but he had left it back in his room. He did have his brother's deck with him, however, so he took it out and looked at card after card with a special interest. Then, finally…
"C'mon Alexis!"
Mindy's voice echoed through the hallway. As if snatched by a string, Syrus' head snapped up on cue. He straightened up so he would be slightly taller.
"Mindy, you're behind me. Why don't you hurry up instead?"
There she was… Syrus suppressed his blush.
"I can't walk as fast as you!" Mindy complained. Syrus glimpsed Jasmine coming down the hall, followed by Alexis, followed by Mindy. His gaze stayed on Alexis for a second more before he looked back at his brother's cards. The dragon card in his hand now seemed so boring.
Jasmine nearly passed Syrus by, but when she caught sight of him she was angry. "What are you doing in here, Syrus?" she demanded.
"My brother invited me to help him pack," Syrus snapped. He didn't like Jasmine all that much. Although he had snuck over to the girls' dorm before, that didn't mean she had had to put him down by implying that he was undesirable.
Alexis stood behind Jasmine, nose-deep in a book. Syrus' heart sunk.
She doesn't see the mistletoe! he thought miserably.
Somebody else did, though.
"Oh my gosh! I just love mistletoe!" Mindy squealed. Mindy hugged Syrus and kissed him quickly on the lips, then let him go. "Come on! We're gonna be late to pick up your new cards in the card shack, Jasmine!"
"They're not going anywhere, Mindy," Jasmine reminded her condescendingly. Alexis was silently laughing at Sy's reddened cheeks.
"You okay, Syrus?" she laughed. Syrus shook his head no.
"Aw, poor Syrus!" Mindy said. "We should all kiss him!"
Alexis looked amused by this idea, but Jasmine was disgusted. "I'd rather kiss a pig than Syrus."
Anger displaced embarrassment, and Syrus averred, "I'm not that ugly!"
"No, you're not," Mindy agreed. "Your hair is so cute. Oh Jasmine! Your cards!"
"Yeah, let's go get them."
"Bye Syrus," Alexis called as she and her two friends left. Syrus stared after he until she walked out of the door of the lobby. Zane was just coming in.
Sy sighed. "I get a kiss from the wrong person," he spat. "Figures! At least I was right, though: I did get all the looks."
