Purple for royalty. Indigo for servitude. Scarlet for wealth. Black for humilty and white for purity. Lapis Lazuli for the heavenly Madonna's gown. Green for youthfulness or ill-luck. Yellow for treachery. And some colours never conceived of by the master dyers of his youth, unnatural modern inventions.

Henry Fitzroy idly examines the human revelry before him. Lights yellow, white and blue from the bars and the street illuminate the swirling, chattering people. They spill out from the brimming buildings into the sidewalks, celebrating their youth and the night.

I spy with my little eye...

Red and white roses patterned on a short, silky dress.

Henry strolls forward to make her acquaintance. He always did appreciate a woman who wore his colours.

A/N: Henry Fitzroy, vampire is the creative property of Tanya Huff. "Blood Ties" is a TV series now, but I still think of the character in the books when I write Blood Ties. The red and white rose is the symbol of the Tudors, since Henry VII (Henry Fitzroy's grandfather) ended the "War of the Roses," and melded the Red Rose of Lancaster with the White Rose of York.
