Misunderstanding
"Hi, how was your day?" Jackie asked as Nick walked through the door.
"Long, I can't believe I had to pull another double." Nick said with irritation obvious in his voice.
"I'm sorry." Jackie told him.
"Hi guys." Nick said with a smile to the kids who were all around him, vying for his attention.
"I made your favorite dinner, and I have a special surprise for you for dessert. Come on its ready." She told him.
They ate dinner and then Jackie brought out a cake pan. Nick opened the lid.
"A Jell-O cake. What's the occasion?"
"No occasion, I just thought I would be nice and make one for you since you've had to work so many doubles lately, plus we haven't had one for a while." She responded.
"Thanks Jacks." He told her with an appreciative smile on his face.
After the family enjoyed their dessert Nick helped Jackie give the kids their bath and then they both put them to bed.
Not too long after the kids were down for the night Nick and Jackie got ready for bed themselves.
After they were settled under the covers Jackie leaned over and kissed his cheek a couple times and then started kissing him sweetly on the neck.
"Night Jacks." He told her as he gave her one kiss on the cheek before he rolled over so he could go to sleep as if he didn't even notice she was kissing his neck.
"Night Nick." She responded quietly before she too rolled over in the opposite direction.
A single tear slid down her face.
