Prompt: Alone (#189)

Sisters

Fleur ran the comb through the silken strands of blonde hair, her eyes following the perfectly straight-line with her blue eyes.

"Your hair is beautiful, Gabrielle," Fleur stated with a fond smile, speaking in smooth french as her sister sat with her back to her, allowing her elder sister to comb her hair.

"Yours is prettier," Gabrielle replied in small tones.

Fleur frowned slightly at the eleven year, whose head was tilted slightly so that she was looking down.

"Why so sad, little angel?" Fleur asked, pausing in her brushing.

Garbrielle shrugged her shoulders inelegantly.

"No, little one. I want an answer," Fleur said gently, grabbing her sister by the shoulders and forcing the younger girl to turn. The pretty, little face with skin so smooth and fine it looked softer than rose petals, remained downcast. Golden lashes touched pale cheeks like gold feathers against white down. "Gabrielle!" Fleur stated, her tone now more stern.

"I barely get to see you as it is, now I will never see you anymore," Gabrielle replied, her tone quiet and sedate, which was unusual for the happy and excitable young girl.

Fleur frowned. She knew that... now that you're getting married, was left unsaid.

"I thought you liked Bill," Fleur started in slightly distressed tones, causing Gabrielle to look up, her blue eyes wide.

"I do! And I am very happy for you... but... you've been going to school, and then you stayed here after the tournament and started to work in Gringotts... I just..." Gabrielle trailed off, her little blonde brows furrowing together as she looked away, almost feeling ashamed to admit that she didn't want to be left alone.

Fleur sighed, pulling her little sister she'd always adored to her in a hug. "I know, my little one. But come September, you won't remember to miss me. You'll be starting at Beauxbaton, and make lots of friends. We'll still have the holidays."

"I suppose," Gabrielle stated, though she didn't sound convinced.

Fleur smiled, and grabbed her sisters chin, forcing the younger girl with identical eyes to her to look at her.

"No matter what, you will always be my baby sister. And I will always be there for you when you need me," Fleur promised, her voice full with conviction and her eyes shining with love.

Gabrielle finally smiled, her pink lips spreading and grinning and Fleur felt her heart break a little.

She will be an even bigger heart-breaker than I ever was, she thought, already seeing the features that would only mature into a very lovely woman.
