Not In Hogwarts

Song: Not In Nottingham, from 'Robin Hood'

Every town
Has it's ups and downs
Sometimes ups
Outnumber the downs

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was no longer the safe haven it had once been. Ever since the Death Eaters had taken over it had become an institution. It was no longer a place that children went to learn, but a place where they went to be informed. Informed of how Muggles were disgusting animal-like creatures, of how half-breeds were worthless and only deserved to be looked down upon of how only Purebloods were worthy of the magic in their veins.

It seemed so long ago that the students could just enjoy themselves. Long gone were the days of loitering by the lake or curling up by the common room fire.

Heart-warming memories were being replaced by ones filled with malice and spite. Everyone was scared. For their families, for their friends and for themselves in general.

The Daily Prophet had no insight as to what was really going on, seeing as it was clearly being controlled by Voldemort's followers. The Quibbler had been banned and now had 'Undesirable No. 1' printed all over it. It was a miserable sight to see.

But not in Nottingham
I'm inclined to believe If we were so down
We'd up and leave

The majority of students wanted nothing more than to leave, but knew it was impossible. They were in, and they were stuck there.

Students who had earned detention with the Carrow's were forced to use the Cruciatus curse upon one another. If they refused, they themselves were punished. It wasn't for any old reason that Seamus Finnigan was left unrecognizable… Needless to say the other teachers didn't hand out detentions very often, and if they did, they would be certain that the student would serve it with them.

There were –of course- those who rebelled. Dumbledore's Army had re-started thanks to Neville Longbottom, meeting in secret in the Room of Requirement, where the majority of members had taken up residence. After all, who knew what could happen in their common rooms?

They could rebel and they could try to help. They was precious little else.

We'd up and fly if we had wings for flyin'
Can't you see the tears we're cryin'?
Can't there be some happiness for me?
Not in Nottingham

It seemed impossible for anyone to crack a smile. Sure, there were smirks from the Slytherin's who were relishing in seeing their 'in superior' houses getting what they –supposedly- deserved, but it clearly wasn't the same. No one could be themselves unless they were in the Room of Requirement, and all they were just too tired.

Lavender Brown broke down in tears almost daily and Professor Trelawney had been seen mixing a rather dangerous amount of Calming Draught in with her sherry. Everyone else was feeling the strain and it seemed impossible that they could win.

However, when Terry Boot yelled out in the Great Hall about the Trio's escape from Gringotts it renewed their hope and gave them a reason to keep holding on to their dreams.

They would fight until their downfall, and Voldemort would not win, but until then, they were trapped, with only one way out.

There would be no freedom for Hogwarts. Not yet.

Meh, not my best work, but I think it's okay. Leave a review and let me know what you thought.
