Finally catching up on Castle S4 and this had to happen. We didn't get to see Alexis' reaction when the bomb went off in 4x07, so...

Reviews are love. Even if it's something short. First Castle fic and all.

Disclaimer: Castle doesn't belong to me. Which is good. I couldn't make it half as awesome as it is.

Boom Goes The Bomb
One-shot

The bomb went off and, for a second, Alexis just stood there. She didn't move. She didn't blink. She just stood there, staring as the wind blew dust in her face. Then, she saw Kate come out of the van and it was like everything snapped into place. Her mind caught back up with reality and it slammed into her so hard that she stumbled into the man standing behind her. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she felt him steadying her and asking if she was alright, but she couldn't take her eyes off the mess in front of her.

She screamed.

Screamed again.

She didn't stop. She yelled for her dad. For her grandmother. She yelled at the cop that tried to hold her back.

"My dad's in there! He… My grandmother…"

She felt like she should be crying, but the tears weren't coming. Maybe it was the shock, she didn't know. All she could focus on in that moment was that a bomb had gone off and that her dad and grandmother were inside. They'd been inside and… Oh, God. Please don't be dead. Please. They were all she had. She hadn't been lying when she told Kate that. Sure, her mother was alive, but she acted more like the cool aunt you see every so often rather than a mother. And she had Ashley… Sort of, but not really. Not with him in California and her here. Not when she felt like she was losing him more days than she had him.

Her dad and her grandmother were the only constants in her life. They were all she had. If they were…

Her hand clamped over her mouth, shaking. She needed them. She needed her dad. She needed her dad to tell her everything was going to be okay. She needed Ashley to hold her, but he wasn't here.

"Daddy…"

It came out in a whisper, broken as her voice cracked. She could see the cops storming into the bank and something twisted in her chest. Fear. Pure terror coursed through her as images flashed across her mind. She saw them every time she blinked, bloody horrible messes like her dad wrote about in his books, but this time, it was his face on the victim. His body torn apart and dead.

Oh, God. She felt sick.

She tried to push the images from her mind, but her father's face was only replaced with her grandmother's. It did nothing but make her knees feel weaker than they already did. How she wasn't on the ground, Alexis had no idea.

Then, she saw it. Saw them. She could see the hostages coming out of the bank. Saw her father and her grandmother supporting a pregnant woman before her grandmother broke off.

They were okay.

They were okay.

It kept repeating like a mantra in her head as her father's eyes found hers and then she was falling into his arms.

They were okay.

They were safe.

They were coming home.

Then, the tears came.

The End
