The Little Black Book
Summary: Shunsui conspired a plan to steal a look on Nanao's little black book.
Sometimes Shunsui wonders what his sweet Nanao-chan wrote in her precious little black book. No one seems to know. But she always carries it wherever she goes. And many times, she had smacked him with that book when he started having funny comments and suggestions. Nanao is careful enough not to write in her book or even opens it in his presence. It makes Shunsui wants to read it even more. The curiosity in him was swelling like a over-heated balloon waiting to burst on a hot summer afternoon.
He was bored and almost falling asleep again in his chair. And then he jerked to wake as if strucked by lightning. It earned him a curious glance from Nanao but before long, she resumed her work when she found out nothing unusual, oblivious to her captain's antic.
The most crazy idea came to his mind - he would sneak a peek at the content of Nanao's book. A plan, he needed a plan. Maybe two, in case plan A doesn't work out.
Plan A – Steal it when she is sleeping
It's a moonless night. A shadow crept into Nanao's room without making any sound. He began searching the room for that book. Ah, it is besides her bed. Just when the book was within his grasp, he paused and noticed how cute his Nanao-chan looked when she slept. His face inched closer to hers - tempted to steal a kiss.
And then he tripped over something and fell towards Nanao. Nanao's eyes fluttered open, wide in shock and disbelieve.
"Taichou, what are you doing in my room?"
(Shudders) A big "X" appeared in his mind. Probably not a good idea.
This meant he was left with plan B - distract her, read it and put it back before she is aware.
"Aw, aw!" he made sure his voice was loud enough to get her attention. And he did.
Nanao frowned and looked up from the pile of paper works on her desk.
"What is the matter, taichou?"
"I think I just poked my fingers with needles."
"You're sewing?" she raised a perfect eye brow.
"My haori has a big hole here. Since my Nanao-chan is so busy, I think I'd sewn it myself."
When she finally walked over, he showed her his finger, pouting like a child.
"It's just a small wound, taichou."
"But, but… there is blood oozing out."
"Oh, stop being a child. Just give that to me. I'll get you a plaster."
Bingo.
She then left the room and more importantly, left her little black book on her desk.
As soon as Nanao left the room, he reached her desk within a split second with shun-po (flash steps). He was so closed to succeed now. His hand touched the leather cover of the book but he held back when a voice rang in his head.
What if she finds out? She will be mad and sad and most of all, disappointed with me. All those years of effort to get closer to her would be wasted just like that. She will not trust me again. This is Nanao-chan's precious book. And I will wait for the day when she finally opens her heart and shares her book and her life with me willingly.
One day. Not today. Maybe another hundred years.
When Nanao came back to the office, she found her captain beaming at her.
"Oh, my precious little Nanao-chan. What would I do without you?"
"Wearing a haori with holes or die bleeding trying to sew it back." She replied calmly without looking at him as she applied the plaster to his injured finger.
It took a moment before the captain realized that his lieutenant actually just cracked a joke because she said it with such a straight face. A deep rumble escaped his throat and he started laughing like he had never laughed in centuries. And he only stoped laughing when Nanao shot him with a deadly glare.
He would definitely wait even if it takes eternity for his Nanao-chan to finally accept him.
Yes, for her he would.
After all, she is his precious little black book that worth waiting a lifetime.
