Who knew how the mighty fall? Nobody knew. Glory meant nothing without a legend or memory to back it up. Flames danced around them in the clearing, but in all honesty, he didn't care enough to try to stop them. They were dying anyways. Just like him. He heard a groan from the outside. Rolling over onto his stomach, he looked at the other survivor of the bloody battle. She was holding her side and trying to get to a tree. He smiled and pushed himself to stand. He ignored the blood coming from his mouth and stomach. All he could think of was getting over to her.
"Let me help," he said. She looked up at him with dying brown eyes. They were so beautiful. He collapsed against the tree and used the rest of his strength to pull her into him. He placed his warm giant hand against her side where a sword must've got her. She smiled at him and rested her head in the crook of his neck. "It'll be okay. Konoha is on their way to us. I can just feel it." All he could feel was the slowing heartbeats of both of them.
"Do me a favor," she said through the pain. He would be willing to do anything for her. His mind was willing to delude itself into thinking he loved her. He probably did in some way. "Kiss me like a real lover." He did just that. She smiled as his blood painted her lips. He kissed her neck too and smiled into her skin. They weren't lovers, but they could've been. "Maybe in another time and another place, you and I could've loved each other deeply." She was quiet after that. He could barely feel her heart beating.
"I would love you and give you the dream wedding," he said. He became aware that the blood from her side was starting to seep through his fingers. He sighed and felt tired. "Let's rest. Konoha will wake us up when they get here." He fell asleep as he held onto her. He didn't feel her heart give up or know that his own stopped right after hers. He didn't hear Konoha's shouts as they drew near. The last thing he remembered were her pretty, dying brown eyes.
