Author's Note: This is very much so Jate angst. It seems like all my Jate angst stories deal with Kate running and leaving Jack behind. Oh well. I like writing the Jate angst. The song is "Anything" by Plain White T's. Read and review! Enjoy!

I see your face in the frame of my desk. It meant a lot; now it means a lot less.

Dr. Shephard sat in his office at St. Sebastian's Hospital, filling out paperwork. Jack was wearing an Armani suit and tie, furiously writing in a patient's file. Every few minutes Jack looked up and glanced at the picture frame that was sitting right in front of his face. In the picture, both he and Kate were grinning like there wasn't a care in the world. The picture was taken just a day after they were rescued. Kate was arrested then, but Jack has hired a lawyer for her and the lawyer did his job; all Kate had to do was community service. She was also put on parole, but that was better than being sentenced to life in prison or death. Once the trial was over, Kate and Jack moved in together and became very serious. Everything was going perfectly and Jack was positive he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Kate. But five months after they were rescued, Kate ran, leaving Jack thoroughly confused.

I see the bracelet you gave me back then. Made it for me so I'd never forget. It must've worked 'cause I haven't forgotten you yet.

When Jack Shephard walked into his home, the one he shared with both Sarah and Kate. A feeling of sadness overtook his body. How he managed to stay in the house where two women broke his heart, he didn't know. Jack grabbed a beer out of his fridge and then headed down the hallway to the stairs. Slowly, the lonely doctor climbed up the stairway and walked into his room.

Dr. Shephard sat down on his bed and turned on the television. Flipping aimlessly through the channels, Jack's chocolate brown eyes studied the bedroom. On the dresser, the sling that Kate had made him was just sitting there. Jack remembered that Kate had made the sling just for him. When she gave it to him after he got out of the cave-in, he vowed that he would never forget about Kate. And even though she left him after just five months, Dr. Shephard still thought of Kate Austen everyday.

You could've told me anything to make me understand 'cause I don't understand.

Jack had told Kate countless times that she could tell him anything and that he would never be mad at her. And Dr. Shephard thought that Kate did tell him everything; apparently she didn't though because he was still completely clueless. Jack wished that she would just explain herself to him so he could understand.

You could've told me why you had to go. I try to tell myself just let it go. But I see your face; it's everywhere I go.

All Dr. Shephard wanted to know was why Kate left, maybe, if she told him why she left, then maybe he could stop thinking about her and stop seeing her face. But he knew she wouldn't explain it to him. He had to move on from Kate on his own.
