Author's note - so this is just a short little valentines story about Draco and Hermione. Enjoy!
Snowflakes swirled in the air, landing gently on Hermione's face as she watched them dance in the sky. Though it was February, the snow still hurled down, creating the illusion of Christmas once more. It was Valentine's day today and, as she and Ron had broken up before Christmas, she was sat alone with just a butter beer to keep her company. The bar was quiet so she was surprised when she heard the sound of the bells above the door ringing and the heavy footsteps growing nearer. Not surprised enough to turn round though. She held the letter in her hand, the one Ron had given to her last year. It was simple and awkward but romantic in a strange, Ron-like way. Suddenly she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around. "Malfoy?" she gasped.
"Hey Granger." There was no cruel ever to his voiced by Hermione was too shocked by his appearance to notice.
A silence fell upon them. "What? No snarky comment about how I'm alone for Valentine's?" she asked.
"Well, Granger, as you can probably see, I too am alone. It would only be hypocritical to tease you."
"So that's it? You now recognise we're the same?"
"Granger, Granger, Granger, I realised that long ago, I just looked winding you up. That and I haven't seen you since the war." He paused. "Guessing you broke up with weasel then?" He took her silence for a yes. "Good. I'm surprised it took you that long if I'm honest, you being the brightest witch of our age and all." She still didn't reply but he did notice a faint glimmer of a smile play across her lips. "Merlin Granger, am I taking to myself?"
"Are you serious?"
"What?"
"Are you serious when you say you're glad I broke up with Ron?"
"Yeah. He's a fucking annoying prick."
"That I agree with."
They stopped taking as he ordered himself a butter beer. "Why did you two finish?"
"Lavender Brown." she whispered, her voice barely audible.
"Ugh." he spat with disgust "Should've known he wasn't over her."
"Why are you being nice to me?" she asked suddenly.
"It's valentines day and we're both alone."
"What, so you thought if you were nice to me you'd get in my pants?" she spat.
"No, I didn't mean it like that."
"Then how did you mean it?"
"Just that it's an awkward time of year for those of us who don't have someone." At that moment a song started playing. "Come on Granger, dance with me."
"What?"
"You heard, dance with me. Or do I have to go all Viktor Crum?"
"Fine I'll dance."
They got off their stools and stepped onto the dance floor area. It was a slow, romantic song and Hermione somehow found her head resting on his chest as the swayed along to the music, his arms round her waist. His breath ticked her cheek as he burrowed his face into her hair. The song came to an end but the pair didn't move from the positions, instead they waited for the next song which turned out to be an upbeat one, causing them to separate. Hermione looked up at Draco's eyes and realised how see they we're. Suddenly she was falling, falling hard. She didn't know whether it was the Butter beer going to her head but before she knew it she was kissing him. And he was kissing her back. It was light at first, their lips barely grazing, but it soon got deeper. She could feel his hands roam her back as she ran hers through his hair. They pulled apart, both gasping for air. Not once did she move from his hold. He looked down to her and smiled. "I guess we both have someone for Valentines."
