Miracles
She waits for me at night; she waits for me in silence
She waited for him the darkness. She known he'd come home to her when he was ready. He would think that she was upstairs in their bed, but she would wait in the basement for him because he would go there first. She waited in silence. She waited patiently.
He came in and glanced around the house. It was quiet. He was sure if she was in bed or if she'd left him for good this time. The lights were off, except the one she'd left burning for him in the living room. Their bedroom light was off. He sighed. He was ready to head to bed yet. He needed a little more time before he could face the possibility of her not being there. He shuffled down the stairs and flicked on the light switch for the basement.
She gives me all her tenderness and takes away my pain
She was waiting for him, sitting on his workbench. Her eyes were alert and concerned. She wasn't angry with him anymore. She'd moved past the point of ire, of pity, and compassion, and into love. She loved him. That was her resounding thought. It didn't matter what they argued over, or that she'd slammed the bedroom door with him on one side, her on the other. It didn't matter that he'd stormed out. What mattered was that he was there and so was she.
And so far she hasn't run, though I swear she's had her moments
He'd expected her to run away from him. He'd expected to come home to an empty house or a night on the couch. They'd had their moment and from the look in her eyes, it was more than past time to move on.
She stood and walked toward him. She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his, the t-shirt she was wearing as a nightgown, one of his Marine Corp shirts, riding up her thighs. He felt her tenderness wash over him and ease some of the pain in his heart.
She still believes in miracles while others cry in vain
She was such a miracle for him, exactly what he needed to survive.
"I'm sorry Kate."
"I'm sorry too, Jethro. I love you."
"I love you too." He held her tight and forced back the tears that had been threatening to fall since he'd found her waiting for him. There wasn't a need for them anymore, not with his miracle right there in his arms.
