The day had been long and Kagome thought she would be used to the blood and fighting by now. All the people and demons she had met she thought she had seen everything. Her subconscious didn't seem to understand her reasoning. Kagome paced in the night having been woke up again by another dream. She looked out over the water the moon shining into it, how she wished life was as simple as this moment.
Kagome sat down on a stone in the river. She watched the water move gently in the waves wishing her subconscious would be this calm. "What are you doing awake?" InuYasha asked appearing behind her on the river bank. "Ah!" Kagome jumped falling back into the water "I was enjoying a nice night until you came" she sputtered getting up "Its late you know you need your sleep I'm not carrying you everywhere tomorrow" InuYasha ignored her comment crossing his arms "I can't sleep" Kagome confessed walking to dry ground.
"Huh. Human wits are weak" InuYasha scoffed sitting on a boulder facing away from her. "I can't stop having those dreams" Kagome looked over to him waiting for a retort but got no reply he just sat twirling a rock in his hands. "This wasn't happening when I first got here I don't know why…" she trailed off he voice dropping to a whisper. InuYashas ears twitched waiting for her to begin speaking again even in a whisper. Kagome just sighed "But I guess I should just get over it a go back to sleep right?" She looked up at the dark sky. "Good night then" Kagome walked over to her bag she had been using as a pillow to sleep outside tonight. She laid down and after glancing over once more at InuYasha who hadn't moved then closed her eyes.
Kagome had still not fallen asleep when suddenly she felt deep warmth surround her and pull her farther into it. Her eyes flew open and she realized InuYasha was laying behind her his arm around her holding her agents his chest his leg resting between her legs and stomach. "InuYasha what are you doing?" Kagome hadn't moved out of her curled up position he had simply formed himself around her. "I'm hoping you'll fell safe enough not to dream" he whispered. His chin was resting lightly on the top of her head she could hear him breathing softly. Kagome closed her eyes and relaxed her head back resting agents him. 'Thank you' she thought feeling a safety she only felt with him.
