Lapidot- PTSD and Anniversaries
This is a human AU where Peridot is a boy -deal with it- and is normal height and Peridot and Lapis have known each other since the age of 4 (Lapis) and 6 (Peridot). Rose Quartz and Lapis were prisoners in a war (In which Rose died and Lapis has PTSD). Peridot goes to a tech college and Lapis stays away from college and places with mass amounts of people because of her- you guessed it!- PTSD. (Peridot's personality may not be the same as on the show,) You've been warned.
"Lapis."
"Peri."
"I'm gonna kick your ass at Gears of War."
"You wish." They both cracked up as they reached for the Playstation 4 controllers. It had been six months since they moved into this house. One year since they left Peridot's house behind. Two years since the war had taken their parents and the mother of the kid they occasionally watched. Two years since the war had taken Lapis prisoner for a torturous three months. Lapis had been struggling with PTSD for two years.
Lapis realised what day was soon to come and put the controller back on the shelf.
"... I don't really feel like playing." Lapis said. Peridot gave it some thought and remembered the dates of this month two years prior.
"Lapis, are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine."
"You don't look fine. Do you want to talk about it?"
"Peri?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm going to go swim."
"Ok, I'll be here." Lapis left the room after fishing around in her drawers for her swim suit. When she was diagnosed with PTSD, the doctor advised not swimming, bathing, cooking, handling anything harmful, or going out in public without Peridot close by. Peridot seemed to be the only person who could fully calm her down. This is why Lapis had such a hard time convincing him to do what he wanted and go to college. He was persistent on staying with her until she said she would never forgive herself if she let him not go to college like he always wanted to.
Peridot had a bit of OCD and when Lapis did something the doctor recommended not doing, he checked on her every three minutes. Lapis got into the pool and instantly remembered being almost drowned for answers on various subjects. While seeing herself being shoved under the water, she slipped under the water.
When Peridot always checked in on Lapis every three minutes for fear of her drowning, Peridot always got an answer. (Almost) always. This time he did not.
"Lapis, you ok?"
Nothing.
"Lapis?"
Still nothing.
"Lapis I'm coming in!" Peridot barged through the door frame and saw Lapis floating in the small pool, her face mere centimeters under the water, and her dyed blue hair floating in every direction. "Lapis!" he rushed over and pulled her head above water. Her eyes jerked open and she started coughing and spluttering.
"Lapis, what happened?" Peridot attempted to calm her down as she began the hysterics and climbed out of the pool. "It's ok, I'm here. You're gonna be fine. Calm down, it's ok. I'm here." Lapis explained her vision to her eighteen-year-old boyfriend.
"Just remember that Jasper had a mental breakdown and is currently in the psych ward. He can't hurt you. NO one can get to you."
"Because you're here?" she replied in a tiny, scared voice.
"Yeah," Peridot sighed a little bit. "Because I'm here." he pulled out a promise ring. "And I promise I always will be." he handed her the ring and she slid it on her finger and then nuzzled into Peridot's chest.
