The TARDIS was out of control. The Doctor was running from to and fro, twisting buttons and pulling levers. Amy Pond seemed unaware of this as she sat in one of two chairs that were dotted around the TARDIS console. She was daydreaming. The cracks in time seemed to appear everywhere she and the Doctor went, like they were following her, chasing her. She'd seen so many things: The cabinet war rooms of World War Two, the Dalek city of Kaalann, a Cybermen ridden Arctic, not to mention meeting Vincent van Gogh!
"Not going to help me Pond?" The Doctor had to raise his voice over the mayhem of the uncontrollable TARDIS. "The old girl used to be piloted by six people you know!" he added.
Amy didn't seem to notice, she was still in a deep train of thought.
Suddenly, 'the old girl' started to work normally again. "She knows what you're thinking" said the Doctor.
"How?" asked an inquisitive Amy.
"Oh she does it with everyone, telepathic field gets inside your mind," he began "She's done it with Rose, Tegan, Susan..." The Doctor's thoughts trailed off.
"Who's Susan?" asked Amy, surprising the Doctor.
"She was my gran.." the Doctor hesitated "a friend."
"She was your friend?" Amy asked speculatively, an eyebrow raised.
The Doctor finally conjured up the courage to admit, "She was my granddaughter."
"Your a granddad!" exclaimed Amy, letting out bursts of laughter that she found hard to control.
"I am, well I was but I still am..." the Doctor seemed confused. "Travelling in time doesn't help a Time-Lord's mental well being."
"Did she travel with you then," Amy still wanted answers.
"Yeah, when I was... well... younger."
"Younger?"
"Like 800 or so years younger... give or take."
Amy was thrown for a moment by this, "How did she stop travelling with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well she's not here now is she?"
"I left her in the future, she stayed there and I'm sure she's very, very happy," the Doctor paused, slightly saddened.
"Why?" prodded Amy.
"Because she wanted to," answered a now slightly annoyed Doctor. "Now," he started, changing topic, "Where do you wanna go this time?"
