"Dee!" Ryo cried running and stumbling over debris to get to his partner. Dee lay limp under a pile of rubble from what had been the 27th precinct. "Dee!!" He called again almost hysterical. After what seemed like forever, he finally reached him and began to franticly uncover him. He was in debris up to his waist and there was blood from dripping heavily from his forehead. "Dee, please answer me!" He cried almost freeing him completely. A small moan escaped his lips and tears began to spill from Ryo's eyes. "Oh Dee!" He yelped thankfully pulling him close to him. "Why did you do that? You could have been killed!" He was rambling as Dee tried clearing his vision.
"Ryo…cough … If you were hurt I would have died anyway." He struggled to say trying to pull himself up. Ryo stared after him for a moment in awe. Then he snapped out of his as he realized that Dee was swaying as he walked.
"Dee wait up! He should sit down." Ryo coxed taking his elbow to help steady him.
"I'm fine. I can walk myself." Dee argued as the got to steady ground.
"Laytner! Maclean! You alright?" the chief asked as they came up to them.
"Yeah , yeah, yeah." Dee waved off.
"Dee…"
"Laytner, you don't look too good." The chief said giving him a strange look.
"Dee we should take you to a hospital to get checked out…" Ryo began but was quickly interrupted.
"I'm not going to the hospital! I hate those places. You go in you may not come back out." He strongly refused. He turned to Ryo with his eyes unfocused and blood still dripping from his forehead. "I'm fine…Ryo." He breath just as he fainted into Ryos arms.
"Dee! Dee!" Ryo cried catching him as he fell.
Dee woke to a beeping noise close by. He was conscious but still kept his eyes close. Where am I? he thought to himself. He decided he'd find out and slowly opened his eyes to an almost dark room with just a table lamp on in the corner on the opposite end of the room. He tried lifting his head but the pain prevented that. He could still barely see and his hand felt heavy for some reason. Blinking a few times clearing his vision a bite he saw that Ryo was reason for the weight on his hand. He was asleep slouched over with his head on the side of the mattress and his hand holding his. Ryos face was turned towards his and he could see the tears glisten on his cheek and the dark rings under his eyes. It broke his heart.
Dee carefully pulled his hand out from under Ryos without stirring him. After watching him for a few more moments Dee reached up and warily whipped a fallen tear from his cheek. Ryo jolted awake and instantly smiled as he saw who woke him. "Dee!" he breathed. His voice sounded hoarse.
'Hey." He barely got out.
Ryo jumped up and put a hand to his forehead checking his temperature. Dee looked miserable. Ryo wasn't much better off.
"How are you felling?"
Dee closed his eyes again. "Like a building fell on me." Ryo frowned feeling guilty. He was in the hospital because Dee saved him. "You better stop that now." Dee ordered. "It wasn't your fault." He added still with his eyes closed. Ryo smiled. he always seems to know just what I'm thinking. Dee opened his eyes again to see Ryo. "How long?"
"4 days." He said looking shameful again.
"How long since you slept?"
Ryo blushed. "Just today."
"Do me a favor?" Dee asked.
"Anything."
"Lay with me? I hate hospitals." He said nearly asleep.
Ryo hesitated. "Sure." He slowly climbed in next to Dee intending to stay far enough away so not hurt him; but Dee grabbed him and made him lay with his head on his shoulder. As soon as his head rested, he was out; Ryo minutes later.
