This is utter crack. No, seriously. I can't usually write crack even when I tried, and yet this is.
Also, I don't own the Hunger Games, though I'm pretty sure Suzanne Collins wouldn't want to claim this.
The nest fell, and there were a few seconds of total chaos as the insects burst from it and their enemies fled before their mindless rage and they gave chase. Nobody had any attention to spare the nest itself, split open with its impact with the ground. Nobody saw the flicker of white in its depths. A wind blew through, and the white thing flickers harder, moves a little, flapping a bit in the breeze and then pulling free. It's a little card of paper, seeming far bigger since once it's in the open a holographic image bursts from it. President Snow in three dimensional glory, smiling out of the little card, one hand raised in a friendly wave as it blew away, leaving the nest completely empty at last.
There's always a prize in the bottom of a nest of tracker jackers. Sadly, it's always a bit disappointing.
PS: The nest in the next Games holds a little fake tattoo with a starburst and the words "May the odds be ever in your favor!"
PPS: Seriously? Am I seriously the only one who thinks about this every single time I hear the term "tracker jackers"? I can barely type it, my fingers always try to start with a 'c'. :(
