Chapter 1 - Reminiscing and Revealing
Ginny is happy. Really, truly happy. It's not an unfamiliar sensation, but this is different. She's on the train from Hogwarts, to spend the summer at the Burrow after her fifth year. Gryffindor had won the House Cup and Quidditch Cup for the fourth time in a row. And Harry Potter was now her boyfriend.
Sometime in Ginny's fifth year, Ron and Hermione had realized how they felt about each other. She prefers to phrase it a bit differently, but Harry insists that this is a bit rude. Ginny is sure that he's trying to be a responsible prefect in the common room, because she's heard him say much worse on the Quidditch pitch. Regardless, Harry began to spend much more time with her as his two best friends became more romantic near him.
Apparently, he had begun to develop feelings the past summer at the Burrow, when they'd had hours upon hours to chat, play Quidditch, have prank wars with Fred and George, and try to stay away from Ron and Hermione's relentless snogging. (They actually won a few of the wars, thanks to the Invisibility Cloak). Nothing had happened, however, until the Quidditch final about four months before. In the euphoria of winning, Harry snogged Ginny in the middle of a crowded Gryffindor common room. It was rather dramatic and romantic, in her opinion.
"Gin? Ginny? Are you okay?" a voice interrupted her mental reminiscing, bringing her back to Earth. The Hogwarts Express compartment contains Ginny herself, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville. All were looking at her concern, but it was Harry who had spoken from the seat next to her. Well, sort of, they were more in each other's laps than anything else.
"Yeah I'm fine, just got lost in my thoughts a bit there, sorry," she explained, turning to press a reassuring kiss against Harry's lips.
"Euughhh! Do you really need to do that in front of me? I don't need to see my sister and best mate snog, thanks!"
Harry laughed at Ron's disgust, though he flushed slightly pink. "Well, watching my two best mates snog isn't exactly a joy either mate."
As if on cue, both Ron (the hypocrite) and Hermione burned the exact same shade of red. Instead of responding, Ron turned to Neville. Ginny realized he was probably very uncomfortable in a compartment with two couples.
"Fancy a game of wizard's chess?"
The rest of the train ride passed with companionable chatter, Ginny on top of Harry and relaxing against his chest. She felt completely safe in his arms, and liked that feeling. Eventually dozing off, she awoke only from Harry gently shaking her. Apparently she had napped the rest of the ride to King's Cross. Smiling tiredly, she grabbed her trunk with one hand, and his hand in the other; departing the train.
It soon became evident that they had forgotten to reveal to the rest of the Weasley family that they were dating. Outside the barrier, Fred and George stood and gaped at their clasped hands. Percy babbled incomprehensibly. Mr Weasley and Bill simply offered congratulations. Yet Mrs Weasley chattered the entire way out of King's Cross and to the Burrow about how her children never told her a thing and and they must send an owl to Charlie in Romania. Forty five minutes, several apologies and many soothing words from Mr Weasley later, she had calmed down substantially. Harry and Ginny were finally able to put their trunks away and slip away to the orchard that was used for Quidditch.
Ginny enjoyed herself immensely, but they definitely did not end up playing the sport much. At sunset, as they headed back to the Burrow, Harry wrapped his arm around Ginny, pulling her close, and she thought this might be the best summer of her life.
