Ruru walked slowly down the hallway toward Hana's room. Today had been an...interesting day.
"I left Criasu," Ruru said to the brightly lit hallway.
She couldn't believe that she was actually saying this. Before, she had no desire to leave the company. This was because her programming didn't give her that desire. All it had done was make her want to serve and protect her superiors and destroy the Pretty Cure. That had been her mission for the past two weeks; try to find the source of the Cures' power and eradicate them. That mission had done something to Ruru that she had never thought possible. It had brought her to life.
Ruru entered through Hana's door. Hana was dressed in beige colored night clothes and had her magenta-colored hair tied up into ponytails. Ruru had never cared to notice before, but now she smiled slightly at the way Hana's bangs were cut. Hana beamed at Ruru when she saw her.
"Hi, Ruru!" Hana said. "You look nice!"
Ruru looked down at the white night shirt she was wearing. She preferred the black version of the night shirt more, but she still liked this one.
"Thank you, Hana san," she said. Hana laughed.
"No need to be so formal; you can just call me Hana," she said. She yawned and stretched. Being an android, Ruru had never experienced the symptoms of sleepiness, but she immediately recognized them in Hana. She watched as Hana got into her bed and pulled up the covers.
"I think it's time for me to turn in for the night, Ruru," she said.
Ruru didn't know if she wanted that yet. She had been itching to ask a question ever since they talked after the fight.
"Hana?" Ruru asked, hoping that Hana wasn't asleep yet. She had a habit of falling asleep so quickly that it was actually kind of scary. To Ruru's relief, Hana sat up in bed.
"Yes?" she asked.
"What exactly is a heart?" Ruru inquired. Hana looked surprised.
"Oh wow," said Hana. "That's...that's a toughie."
"Do you not know?" Ruru asked.
"No, I think that I do," said Hana. "It's just that I need some time to think about it."
Ruru watched Hana as she pondered this question. Her nose wrinkled up and she squinted, as if she was trying to focus on something.
"A heart...is a person's character," Hana said. "It's who they are. It's what makes them...them."
Ruru nodded. That seemed like a good definition; however, she still wanted to know more.
"Can you have a bad heart?" Ruru asked.
"I...I assume that you can," Hana said. "I've never really thought about it. I've always treated each person that I met like they had a good heart."
"Do I have a good heart?" Ruru asked.
"I don't know," said Hana. "What do you think? You're the only one who can really answer that question."
Ruru thought about it. She had done some bad things. She had lied to Hana, Saaya, and Homare. She also assisted Criasu in the attempt to stop time. Then again, she had been programmed to do all that stuff.
"I don't know," Ruru said at last.
Hana nodded. She then lied down.
"Okay then," she said. Ruru still wasn't ready to let her go to sleep just yet though.
"If I don't have a good heart," Ruru said, "is it possible that I can change that?"
"Yeah, of course," Hana replied.
"How?" Ruru said.
Hana thought about this.
"I...I'm not sure," she said. With that, she drifted off to sleep.
