Random one-shot. But still, readers of my somewhat stopped story (which I still intend to continue) Love Bites will see a connection. Yes, it's heavily based on it. No, I'm not telling you to go read it. It's also an entry for a competition, but I'm not expecting to win it. Not that it matters too much.
Silent smiles.
The thought ran by the umbreon's head and he clutched at it with a dead man's grip. He knew it had meant something… it had meant so much to him before. But what? Someone had told him something along those lines… or did they? Or did those thoughts even belong to anyone? Maybe it was just his memory of someone? Something?
His frustration overtook him; he began to scream on deaf ears and dead silence. There was no one to accompany him but his memories, lack thereof, and his frustration. But those memories were all he was. He was a shade of himself, his dulled blue rings and dirty showed it.
He found his thoughts turning onto the real world. They focused slowly, and a jolteon and espeon appeared before him. They sat next to each other, facing the sunset. The umbreon tried to remember how they were related to him, or to each other. He drew blanks.
Resisting the urge to scream once more, he focused and dug deep within his mind. They weren't mates, weren't brother and sister…
For the first time in an age, his memory returned.
Staring at the backs of Ivory and Sendi, and smiled. He began to focus on their conversation.
"…ever come back?" the psychic type, Ivory, asked.
"Probably not. But we can always hope,"
There was a small sob. Sendi quickly moved over, placing a paw on the crying espeon's back. "Don't worry. I'm sure he's watching over us…"
The umbreon mirrored the espeon, shedding a tear. Slowly, another followed, and another. He gave a sad smile. A silent smile. Oh, how true that statement was…
"I miss you. Both of you," he didn't know if he said it or thought it, but it came out.
But was it his imagination, or did they look behind them?
The espeon looked up again, back a silhouette against the waning light of the sun. And yet, her white fur almost glimmered at the same time.
"Let's go. Night never feels right without,"
The jolteon nodded. "Yeah, let's leave. We should probably visit everyone else anyway. They're worried sick, you know. You just weren't the same since he left,"
The espeon nodded once more, and a smile lit up her eyes. And as they began walking away, he heard just a single whisper.
"I miss you too, Cast,"
Make of it what you will, I'm not one to judge my own stories. Except to say when it is absolute crap or not, but that's beside the point. Hopefully you like it. Oh, and if you DID read my story, you'll can take this as an epilogue that I thought up on it before. Won't be the ending any more though.
