Everything was happening so fast…
I had no idea what was going on…
One moment, I was holding onto a spool.
The next… The next moment, I am lying on the ground with a massive headache and possibly a concussion.
"Stay down…" A rough voice whispers above me.
Who else was near me before I got whacked upside the head for no apparent reason?
Johanna.
As I realize this, I feel a sharp pain in my right forearm.
Johanna is trying to kill me.
"I'm so sorry about this. If it makes you feel any better, I was against this idea. You probably hate me now. Just stay down and it will all be over…"
She probably wanted the idea to be 'chop off Everdeen's head'.
Wait, idea?
What idea?
What the hell is going on?
Silence takes over, followed by a delicate peck on my forehead.
Did Johanna just kiss me?
I feel her pull away from me, almost reluctantly seeming. A part of me is sad from the separation.
Wait, why would I be sad? The girl has been nothing short of a bitch to me, then she kisses me? God, this concussion is making me imagine things…
"Shit, they're coming! Remember what I said Everdeen! It'll all be over soon!"
With that, I heard the sound of two feet scamper away from me, followed by the sound of what sounds like two people. I am unable to decipher what they say, as they seem to be whispering to one another. Probably the Careers.
The only thing I can do now is to wait for my death. Hopefully it will be quick, although it is unlikely. It is the Careers after all.
But death doesn't come.
Instead, the pair quickly sprint away from me, muttering something about Johanna.
Once the Careers seem far enough away, I slowly open my eyes and regain my bearings.
I have to get back to the tree.
As I dash quickly over to the spot, my mind is only filled with how weird Johanna was acting. She seemed actually nice, instead of the normal bitch mode that I am so used to by now. And she kissed me, was it real? Or was it my imagination?
Everything seems to speed up again as I shoot the edge of the wire with my bow up into the top of the dome. As everything around me explodes, I am thrown back and begin to lose my consciousness again.
As my eyes begin to shut Johanna's voice whispers, "I'm so sorry. It will all be over soon…"
