Author's note: Tumblr prompt (aph-nordicroots): "Can I request a little something with Denmark and Finland, then, not shippy, just a small scene, either during Kalmar Union or nowadays?"
This is the modern take on the prompt since « You don't know, he says » fills the Kalmar part. If you read French you can see what she and I wrote about this story and our discussion of Denmark's character on Tumblr. It was nice to find somehow else who perceives him the same way I do.

Christen peddles quickly, Timo huffing a bit more in trying to follow after him. The land before them is flat, seemingly stretching on so far that you could see the curve in the Danish land. The sound of laughter blows back to Finnish ears and Timo smiles wide to see Christen so happy, back on his beloved bike.
After a few more minutes they come to a stop in a small town, leaving their bicycles outside a little restaurant to get lunch that the Danish nation insists is on him even though Timo had been the one to say they should go out and do something fun. And Christen, seemingly forgetting the bad economy, fills them with a variety of dishes and drinks until he has Timo howling with laughter too at stories the locals tell them. When they're finished, the bill paid, they go get the bikes to walk them through town, too full to ride.
"This was fun," Christen sighs beside him as they sit on a small hill, the Dane looking to his younger companion and winking. "Thanks kiddo."
"Christen," Timo rolls his eyes, "I'm not a kid anymore. I haven't been for several centuries."
"Eh." The Dane looks out over the land before them, his land, land he's fiercely proud of and could never, ever let another take from him without spilling his blood first, land he loves more than his own life. "You'll always be the little Finn who used to drive Oxenstierna up the wall and get Emil giving his brother headaches to me Timo." Then he slings an arm around the Finn's neck, pulling him in for what could be a manly hug if it wasn't Christen, king of reminiscing on better times only he ever seemed to enjoy.
Then again, Timo has always liked his time spent in Denmark too.
"Was I really that bad as a kid?"
Christen hoots, he laughs so hard at that question. "You were the worst, and I loved it!"
