"Breegull!" The female chirped happily, as she leapt of out Banjo's blue backpack.
"Finally I can stretch my legs out." Her beak curved into a smile, as she squatted down to the floor and jumped into the air, feeling the cool dusk breeze brush against her glowing feathers.
Her emerald eyes scanned the distance, and watched as her other half took off in a clumsy flurry.
She knew he was capable of defending himself, but he couldn't do a simple double jump on his own.
"Banjo you better not take too long." She huffed and placed her wings on her lower torso area.
Gazing up at the fiery and beautiful clouds, Kazooie wished that she could be up there, soaring through the sky and just feeling the thrill of flying, and not being cooped up in a backpack.
Sure she loved Banjo's backpack, but birds needed to stretch their wings and take flight.
"Even if I can't fly without stepping on a flight pad, I'm happy with being grounded. Just being with Banjo is enough of a rush, he's my ball and chain after all."
Smiling at the thought of her teammate, her eyelids dropped in worry, usually she's not the one to feel this concerned but she does.
"Come on Banjo, where are you? You're usually back before nightfall." Grooming her feathers in a rushed manner.
The female breegull stared into the distance again, waiting and wanting to see her bear-friend running towards her, in his slow and clunky way.
"What if he was tired of having to carry me around? What if he leaves the level without me?" Dismissing those crazy and specific thoughts, she noticed how fast time had passed.
"No. Banjo wouldn't do that, and I don't think he could anyway." Reassuring herself, she stared back up at the sky and watched the stars twinkle back at her.
Grinning at the beauty displayed to her, she let those negative thoughts melt away.
Hearing an enemy growl, followed by a grunt and a honeycomb piece falling to the ground, Kazooie's head snapped up right away, her gaze intensifying on the person coming her way.
There he was, the bear had finally returned, a goofy grin plastered upon his snout.
"Sorry that I took so long Kazooie." He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly.
Waiting for her to jump into his backpack, and when she didn't, he knew something was not right.
"Kazooie? Are you okay? Did I do something wrong?" His ears dropped as his deep gruff voice was just above a whisper.
"I'm fine Banjo. You did nothing wrong. But what took so long?"
"I heard a Jinjo calling out for help, waving at me and all. By before I knew it, his eyes turned red and he charged towards me. I guess I still don't know the difference between Jinjo's and Minjo's..." Sighjng heavily, the burly bear looked down in disappointment.
"Aw baby, it doesn't matter. I'm just glad that you're safe, and back with me." She cooed, as she placed a wing under his chin and made him look into her bright green orbs.
"I'm happy to be back with you honey, I missed you so much! Now let's go and hunt down Grunty!" Banjo declared as he waited for Kazooie to jump into his pack so that they could go.
A/N: Excuse the OOC-ness for Banjo and Kazooie towards the end. I was tired and I couldn't comprehend the words I wanted to use properly.
